Help me decide please. Blunt or Blade for my orc.

Post » Sat Sep 17, 2011 10:26 am

Decided to try to RP an orc. I plan on making him a good guy, as good as it gets. Traditionally, when I think of an orc, I think of a 2-h battle axe or warhammer. I'd rather stick with it the way it was supposed to be but I was wondering if a battleaxe/warhammer was as good as a claymore? If blunt is completely crap compared to to blade I guess ill just rough it out. So, is blunt any good?

I suppose from a roleplay perspective, yes.

Blunt is fine. Many would argue that blade has an edge (okay, forgive the pun), but the diffs are not dramatic. Certainly, blunt is not crap compared to blade. Honestly, I would go for looks and image. It really sounds like you would prefer your orc blunt equipped. That's exactly what I'd do then. :foodndrink:

when you say ork, I do not think warhammer I think AXE
google for orc/ork almost ALL have brutal axes (and some have staffs)

equip your orc with a nice 2h battleaxe, or a singlehanded one, but AXE it is.
some staffs as a backup.

and that would fit perfectly in an orc roleplay.

If I were ever to play an orc (perish the thought :yuck:) I would use nothing more sophisticated than a club. Which is classified as "blunt" in some games, I forget how TES does it. I like the thought of a big, dumb, savage being when I think of an orc, literally a step above caveman.

I would say blunt for orc. Heavy men should carry heavy weapons! Claymores are huge weapons, and I think that would be okay too, but my mind implodes whenever I see a large dude like Conan the Barbarian wielding something as thin as a toothpick.

imo, Orcs are not as much uncivilized as they are practical and direct. :) Smash things like tinfoil!

I suppose a lot of depends on your roleplay of the character. You said he is as good as it gets. Is he a knight or a paladin? In such case I would say blade all the way, as the sword is the weapon of the warrior aristocracy. He might use many weapons depending on the situation, but no IRL knight would be caught dead without his arming sword. It was the symbol of his honor. OTOH, if your character is just a regular guy, walking the earth, meeting people, and getting into adventures, I would say go with the axe. The axe is a commoner's weapon, easy to mass produce, but still very effective in the hands of a skilled warrior.

I ran into this same question when I started my latest character last week. She is an orc, and is a self-proclaimed/created paladin of Trinimac. She is very image conscious, as redeeming the name and prestige of Trinimac is the reason she goes around doing good deeds. So she uses a longsword (which is to say an arming sword) as her main weapon.

Yeah, remember Orcs in this universe aren't mindless monsters and are famed for their weapon and armor crafting skills in addition to their combat skills. (Orcish weapons were left out of Oblivion, but they do exist in lore and prior games.) I have yet to play an Orc character, but I really like their lore in the Elder Scrolls series.

My advice is to make an Orc Mage.
