I'm planning on buying an LCD. Last time I saw a plasma screen I couldn't tell what I was watching because I was looking at it from an angle.

I don't know anything about LED tv's.

LCDs. They're cheap, light, have great viewing angles and refresh rates these days (the only issues that ever slightly irked me about them). Personally I see no reason not to LCD (too bad I'm selling my TV at this point, need the cash and less stuff to move around).

Plasma has the best color (IMO), but is said by many to be transient and fade over time. If you check a department store display (or a sports bar), you might see how they hold up to extended use.
LCD's are getting cheap; perhaps for a reason. I plan to look for an LED screen next, if the picture quality is good. (In my case, it has to work for Photoshop)

I was looking at screens in Walmart yesterday, and I did not like the artifacting around text, that I saw on most [if not all] of the large screen tvs they had for sale.

LED is ok. Crappy sound (because they are so thin). Personally, this is the best picture quality TV I have ever seen.http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/VIERA+Flat+Screen+TV/NeoPDP+Plasma+TV/TX-P42V20B/Overview/4916088/index.html Or the 3D version of the same model. http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/VIERA+Flat+Screen+TV/Full+HD+3D+TV/TX-P42VT20B/Overview/5753929/index.html This TV is honestly better than the late Kuro Plasmas by Pioneer, which really is saying something. In my opinion anyway.

It depends on how much you want to spend though.

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/ is probably the best website for reviews, so check that out. I'm from the UK by the way, and work part time in an independent TV shop when I'm not at uni, so I know a fair bit about them. Equivalent US models probably exsists, but definitely check our HDTV Test, it offers really in-depth reviews, and advice on calibrating your TV for best performance.

5 years ago the main thing plasma had on LCD was contrast and that was important for many as high contrast makes colors look richer (especially black). That has changed though and now LCD's have far surpassed plasma in price, performance and lifespan.

What's with all the hate for plasma? I've got one and have had one for nearly a year now and it's wonderful. It has an awesome viewing angle. Then again, could just be mine.

This. IMO plasmas > LCD, if you're looking at equivalent specs. Also, plasmas are much better at SD pictures. Depends on what size you are going for.

@OP, what size TV do you want??

I'd also recommend surround sound if you can fit it into your budget.

LCDs have a slight delay (not that I've noticed), so make sure you get at least 100 Hz.

LEDs are the best, just whether you can afford it.

In my experience, LEDs aren't the best. For one their sound quality is terrible, and secondly and LED is technically and LCD anyway :D

Once we get OLEDs though, that's when things will take off.

I noticed that delay playing guitar hero on a LCD screen. I dunno if new LCDs have or not that delay.

The reason isaid no plasma before is becuse they tend to have images burn into them after a period of time.So things like the HUD in video games can get stuck on your screen.

I bought a plasma TV 1 1/2 years ago. I was told LCD was SSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better, I compared them side by side, and I found Plasma so much better. Also Plasma has a glass screen on the front to protect the TV. I hate how my kids touch the screen on the computer, and I find it easier to clean with Plasma. Colour is richer, sound is better, qualitly in general is so much better with Plasma.

Mind you that was a 1 1/2 years ago, things could have changed. There was no LEDs back then. So I say plasma. It all comes down to price and what you are looking for.
How much are you willing to spend. What are you looking for. I was shocked that not all TV's have 1080 and max is 720 so becarefull what you want. I believe 720 is what
the 360 uses, so if you can save some money go with that. I got 1080 for my PS3 since it's my Blueray player and I play games on the 360.

Playing the 360 on plasma is just beautiful.

My opnion since you asked. :P

Dude that was like 5 years ago. You'd literally have to leave your TV on for a month with your game paused. As in literally 5040 hours in a row. TVs in TV shops run on (mostly) the same channel for 8 - 10 hours a day, with the channel logo always in the corner of the screen and there is no screen burn.

I'm trying to decide on what to get for new TV myself, although I'm gonna wait a few months until all companies announced their 2011 models. And then I will probably another few months for reviews and then a few more months for the prices to drop a bit. So I guess I buy my new TV in september or so :P

LCDs have a slight delay (not that I've noticed), so make sure you get at least 100 Hz.

LEDs are the best, just whether you can afford it.

All flat TVs suffer from the delay (AKA input lag), including plasma. So it's not exclusive to LCD. Among the 2009 and 2010 models it seems like Panasonic (plasma), Sharp (LCD) and Philips (LCD) have the lowest input lag. Samsung and Sony are not that good from an input lag point of view.

100Hz will not help against input lag in any way. It's more about how fast the TV convert the signal into the same resolution as the TV and adding various filters to "improve" the image.

"LED" TV (which is still a LCD TV but with LED backlightning instead of CCFL backlightning) can be great or awful depending on what technology is used. For example, many Samsung LCD LED TVs use edge-lit LED, which is absolutely horrible from an image quality point of view and give lots of clouding. However, the benefit of edge-lit LED is that they can make the TV very very thin, and for many the looks of the TV seem to matter more than the quality of the screen. Strange.

That's not really up to date information any longer. It's very hard to burn a modern Plasma-TV. For most people Plasma would probably be a better choice.

No, I can see burn through on my Plasma HDTV. Thing is, it happens on LCDs as well, leave anything long enough on, and you will get burnthrough. I believe LCDs are less likely to happen though.
I have played Oblivion for hours and hoursm, and so far no burn through. But something like old Nintendo games, then yes you get burnthrough. Also you can set your TV to limit the burnthrough
with a few options. Just never use White OUT since that will lessen the life of your plasma.

Also if yoiu want true 1080 experiance you will also need HDMI cables, so if your 360 doesn't have HDMI input, then I wouldn't worry about 1080 resolution. Just something to consider if you can
get a great deal.

I don't know, Plamsa looks so much more better, LCD just looks cheap. I duno.

This is good advice :D

Panasonic IMO are overall best, in terms of features and customer support. Philips are a big no no. We have a load of their broken stuff that's under warranty and their returns department just refuses to return our calls or faxes. They really are shocking. Most Panasonic TVs come with 5 year guarantees, which shows how confident they are in their awesomeness. This is a Panasonic offer that's nearly always on. Their higher end models also let you plug in an external HDD and use it to record TV programs. They rock, basically.

Edit: @ Turns. They used to, not sure about now though.
