So, I'm trying to find a movie I watched a long time ago. Wife swears up and down that she's never heard of it, but I know we've watched it, but no amount of google-fu for the one main scene I remember turns anything up.

The movie is about this family that moves into a gated community that has super strict regulations. Everythings fine at first, but then a neighbor complains about their dog barking, and the next thing ya know, their dog is taken, then returned with it's barker removed. It spirals out of control from there, the family eventually uncovers some plot blah blah blah involving the guy who runs the gated community.

Every time I leave the country on a bus, they always play that damn movie.

The story rings a bell but I can't place the film as yet.

The movie with Samuel L. Jackson you're thinking of is called Lakeview Terrace and it's the exact movie I thought of after reading the original post.
