So I just started playing Fallout 3 yesterday, and I was hoping you guys could give me a little advice on what quests I should do early on (I am level 2 in Megaton with pretty terrible weapons/armour). No spoilers though please

Well if you have 35 explosives (might be 25) then you can deal with the nuke wich is easy cash and xp do some parts of the wasteland survival guide (get it from Moira brown in craterside supply ) .Theres quite a few little quests in megaton.

Talk to Moira Brown at Craterside Supply. She has a quest that will help the new player get introduced to FO3 very well. While you are doing her quest, which is a long-ass one, yet very enjoyable, I'm 100% sure you will get the quest from Bryan Wilks, who tends to find the player wherever they are. (On a side note, Bryan won't approach you wherever you are if you have the Child at Heart Perk. You will have to find the location by yourself, but with random wastelanders telling you about it, you should find it fine.)

As long as you talk to people, you will find more than enough quests to whet your appetite. So talk to people while you are working for Moira. You never know what you'll find....

Look around Megaton for a bit, and make sure you speak to absolutely everyone there. It will set you on your way and open up a few new quests.

Also, this should be moved to the Cheats & Hints section....

Megaton is a great place to start. The majority of Megaton quests will send you to places very close to bigger places. (The main quest also does this frequently.)

Foes in this game mostly scale with your level. This means that if you are wandering around the landscape, your level 2 character will mostly only encounter things like mole rats, mirelurks, supermutants, feral ghouls, etc.

Gain a few levels and you'll run into supermutant overlords, mirelurk kings, glowing ghouls, ghoul reavers, deathclaws, etc.

You should perhaps stay clear off the Deathclaw Sanctuary, of Old Olney, Fort Bannister, and of that reststop in the southwestern corner of the map; but these special locations, you should be fine just about everywhere.

Blood Ties is one I've done fairly early on - can be done mainly with talking, aside from the fighting you have to do to get there. The reward's good too - depending on your weapon of choice

I addition to the excellent advise above I'd add that you should talk to everyone and take notice, they offer clues and unlock quests, locations etc. This especially true in Megaton for the early stage.

Search everything and everywhere (there might be a really good gun or something quite close by), remembering that most has purpose and it's true value is a balance between caps and weight and whether you'll need it to craft something.

Save often and if you're on a PC use quick save (can you QS on a console?)

Quests aren't timed, you can abandon them at any point and resume when you want.

Examine the unavailable perks, decide which ones you want and build your skills towards them.

Guns, speech, lockpick and science are the most useful skills early on, followed by barter and repair. IMO.

Don't consult the wiki to much, you'll end up spoiling your game.

Do the quest where you have to fix the pipes ( Walter gives you the quest in the water processing lab) and then start collecting scrap metal ( it's all around the game world ) and bring them back to Walter to recieve some caps.

If you are worried about survival against enemies in the Wasteland, you might follow one of the Outcast patrols to get to different quest locations. You can also loot what they kill or any of them who die, all while pursuing quest objectives.

A lot of advice depends on whether or not you are using mods on PC or playing unmodded PC or console.

I'd avoid Mirelurks at low level. They are not worth wasting the ammo.

Thanks guys for all the help. The Survival Guide is great and it really helped me get a feel for the game. I'm level 5 now and I feel pretty invincible, except for those Supermutants...

I dont know about you, but when I was your level I was going off to go do the Power Armor glitch. If you want new, and better armor, I would go and do the glitch. There are videos on how to do it, and I wish you the best of luck!
