Help for a Newbie

Post » Fri Jan 15, 2010 7:18 am

Hello (insert your name here)! Thanks for taking a moment of your valuable time to help a hapless computer retarded fool such as myself. I've lurked around these forums and could not think of any better place to ask.

I recently installed "Oscuro's Oblivion overhaul" and was greatly pleased by the results.

However, I am very tasked for time as I am a music major with 20 hours at my university. There is an option to reset the leveling rates back to original whilst keeping everything else the same. I downloaded the oblivion editor but couldn't find what he was talking about.

If you think I am a fool. Move along and have a nice life. But if you all could teach me about this and perhaps a little about mods in the future that would be great.

Thanks again for your time,

The Doughboy.

Oscuro's doesn't come bundled with the levelling rates modifier, I believe. It comes in an addon .esp, something self-explanatory like "Level_rates modified_3x.esp". If you simply delete that file from your oblivion/data folder (or deactivate it in the files section in the Oblivion startup menu) things should return to normal.
I recommend you download http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097 for a simple and easy way to manage your mods effectively. If you ever dive into mods deeper, this will be an invaluable tool, and even if you don't it can be useful for little things like this, where you want to deactivate a mod or remove a mod along with all of its resources.

I understand that but how do you even edit individual .esp files? Every time I try to open the file it takes me to the construction set.

Yes, the construction set is the way to edit esp files. OOO comes with many different level rates of your choice, so look to see if you're content with one of them. They're found in the "OOO-ADD-ONS\Level_Rates_Modified" folder in the OOO download. If you're not happy with any of them, the next step is to edit one in the CS, or install Progress instead.

Every time I try to access the files all I get are three windows that say "objects" "Render" and "cell view" and I can't find the file on the side.

I wasn't lying when I said I'm computer retarded. This is my first foray into modding stuff. Thanks for the help so far though.

You really don't need to go into the CS to sort this problem.

To revert to Vanilla level rates, I recommend you use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6548, and load it after the OOO .esp

If you really wanted to do it via the CS, there's Boffra LRM generic, bundled with OOO, and instructions how to edit it to change skill rates in an excel file.
