Help? Forever loading on new game load screen.

Post » Tue Jun 25, 2013 1:05 pm

Well basically I bought Skyrim off of steam today, downloaded, installed, but when I try to start a new game, the loading screen with the dragon (before even the opening sequence) won't load, and it just gets stuck there... for [censored] ever. I've got no idea really what's happening, I don't think it's to do with my computer because when it did the syncing for graphic quality it anolysed my computer and chose high, so it cant be that bad. I've really got no clue on how to fix this to be fair... stuck.

Welcome to the forums!

What are your specs? And I assume you have no mods installed, correct?

You don't know what graphics card you have?

To check, you can use this http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ that tells you the info of your GPU. It is simple to install so don't fret :)

The name can be found in the first box.

Try setting the graphics options to medium. Intel integrated graphics solutions aren't great. They have been getting better in recent years, but I wouldn't trust them with high settings.

Also what screen resolution are you using in-game?

Try medium graphics options and scaling back to 1280x720 (still 16:9) to reduce stress on the integrated chipset.

The recommended settings should not be fully trusted. They are simply wrong it this case. The engine behind it, doesn't keep track of all graphics chipsets. The Intel HD 4000 series is a fairly new chipset (2012) so the scanning engine probably doesn't even know what to make of it. It gives a high recommendation due to the CPU.

Also where do you have Steam installed to? If its in the Program Files (or Program Files(x86) directories) then I strongly recommend that you install it elsewhere.

First of all you have a Ivy bridge processor that's the latest you can buy. Those processors are using a Intel 4000 on die Graphic chip.

Actually that's the best you can have on a intel graphic card today.

I don't say it's super but it's playable. (and i don't think it's your graphic chip problem for your freezes anyway)

(Beside that i wouldn't choose high settings - i would go with medium settings and ( forget Anti-aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering - leave them off )

But one think more. I presume you have installed the DirectX 9.0 drives, have updated to the latest Intel drivers and turned off your Antivirus.

DirectX 9.0: http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/4/A/84A35BF1-DAFE-4AE8-82AF-AD2AE20B6B14/directx_Jun2010_redist.exe

Intel 4000 Drivers: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx

So my friend a have something for you:

The Intel Ivy Bridge (Core i7 3770K) Review

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5771/the-intel-ivy-bridge-core-i7-3770k-review/16

(you will see actually how your Intel 4000 performs theoretically)

INTEL HD 4000: SKYRIM (on a Intel Core i5 3210k with 4 Gigs of ram)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs8oQGDuMZw

(and now how it performs practically)

HOPE THIS HELPS !!!!!!

In the root (C:\) directory or C:\games.

@Mark41

DirectX 9.0c DLLs required are installed automatically by the Skyrim installer. If the files weren't there it wouldn't run at all. 33.4fps on medium at 1680x1050, so high settings at 1920x1080 would produce about 5-10fps.

As the other's have said, they are not very good graphic solutions. Even at 1920x1080 is not a good idea at all IMO.

Tone it down to medium/medium-low settings. Get rid of stuff like AF, AA, etc. and tone down that resolution.

Sorry to tell ya this, though :(

Intel graphics driver website: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Laptop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct=3rd+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors+with+Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+4000&ProdId=3712&LineId=1101&FamilyId=39

Find the one for your version of Windows. 15.?31.?9.?64.?3165 seems to be the newest package.
