So I've been modding Skyrim a lot over the past few months, and it's gotten to the point that my mid/low-end computer (an ASUS G72GX laptop) is having trouble with them. I want Skyrim to look amazing, and it certainly does now, but my fps has just dropped too much for me. It's tolerable and mostly playable, but just low enough to be annoying. I was hoping people here might be able to help some on what mods I can disable (or substitute) to get Skyrim running smoothly again while still looking as good as I can get it. Any help is appreciated!

My Mods:

One of the things I found really useful was to learn how to use DDSOpt to optimize my textures. Even if you leave the textures at their current resolution DDSOpt can fix a lot of things in your textures that will prevent lag and CTDs. I fixed a persistent CTD this way. You should look at the DDSOpt directions on the STEP (Skyrim Total Enhancement Project) site because it gives you step by step instructions.

I have optimized and reduced all my textures to 2048x1024 (2048x2048 max for external textures, except for WATER textures which the guide says not to touch, and 1024x1024 for LODs). For normal gameplay you should NOT be using anything higher than 2048x1024 because you'll never see the difference of anything with higher res unless you get real close and are looking for it.

doesn't matter how good your computer is, if you don't use ENB and the memory Patch (found in the newest version of SKSE), its gonna be bad.

also make sure you get something like MSI afterburner so that your video card/cpu doesn't burn up.
