Help - gotta find a non-conjured Frost Atronach

Post » Sat Aug 06, 2016 12:14 pm

Can anyone tip me off as to where such Daedra roam? My current playthrough requires some frost salt and buying or looting the stuff is forbidden. My PC has to fight a real Frost Atronach (not a conjured one) to acquire the prize. I really have no idea where they exist in the game (I couldn't find a list of locations based on creature type in UESP wiki).

Many thanks!

http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Chill is the only place I can think of where you can rely on them.

You could also http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Atronach_Forge them.

Excellent! Thanks very much.

This is a new location to me - never knew about it even after a few thousand hours of play since 2012. Pretty cool, thank you.

I feel like such a noob - I should have remembered the Atronach Forge. Aside from the difficulty of getting acquiring a sapphire, I don't know if my hunter/ranger would want to go through the trial for entering the college. Wouldn't feel natural. On the other hand, I know there's a very difficult, but proven, way to enter the Midden from the cave exit by the ocean. I tried to use that entrance but couldn't manage it, might try again.

Since I'm playing a modded game, there might be a new option for accessing the Midden. I remember seeing some overhauls for both the college and the Midden.

Many thanks!

I know, right?

I'm playing with some mods that make exposure, hypothermia, starvation, freezing etc. a real challenge. Just getting all the way north without dying will be pretty tough (I'm not using carriages, FT or horses). Once there, getting down and finding this place will be even harder - falling in the water in that environment almost guarantees death unless you can light a fire. I knew this would be hard... excellent.

Add another one to not knowing about "the chill" after years of playing......

Rick, I can understand why you might have never encountered the chill before...it's winterhold's prison and since Adella (Ulda too?) has up until now not spent much time in that hold it's unlikely you would be sent there...or explore that far out

I've only served it one time ever, in the last four years.

I've never served one day in jail over thousands of hours of play. I don't do stuff to go to jail for.

Thats what I was going to suggest . Is that what its called? I only know it as Winterhold jail. I stumbled across it once looking for something else. Damn there were a lot of atronachs there, got out ok though.

Er, nope, just once I think in Whiterun. Then I escaped and the guards killed me. So I didn't attempt that again.

Anyone who hasn't checked out the jail and jail-break aspect of the game should gird their loins and give it a try! It's pretty neat and really makes a thief (or even an assassin build) come to life. I haven't done a modded playthrough of a thief build, but I'll still keep the vanilla jail/escape aspect of Skyrim in the mix.

Nothing irrevocable happens - you just get to see another part of each city.

My goal's with both my last Thief and my last Assassin were 0 bounty... 0 kill's on the Thief, "on the Job" ( except where the game does not allow...) I got 1 bounty and 1 kill respectively. Their may be a way to do a 0 bounty assassin but I reloaded several times, trying several different escape route's and somehow even with Invisibility ( via potion or Shadowstone)...she was always "seen".... ( trying not to spoil ) In Solitude.

Ah - the ultimate, unseen professional. Neat goal and idea!

I honestly don't remember which prisons my thief managed to escape, but it was a mix of success and being 'seen'. I know there were a few occasions where she had to serve the time.

Invisibility doesn't cancel noise (you know this Aerial, just stating it for all readers) so what you wear makes a big difference. Even after recovering your stuff from prison chest, it might be best to stay unclothed. I remember benefiting from a very high Sneak skill with lots of vanilla perks (don't think this inlcudes Shadowmaster perk). Throw Voice is a nice tool for distracting guards etc.

All-in-all, I found the challenge to be enjoyable and tactically demanding. It really was outside my comfort zone but I figured it was worth trying after a couple years of doing all the things which I initially wanted to try.

Yes it is a good goal... My thief went all the way through a certain dungeon with no kill's to her name ( forced followers).. she never got "seen"..

This was a "glass cannon" build, she wore cloth and un-tempered light armor...boot's of muffle, muffle spell ( done well before she even went invisible). Absolutely no reason for her to be caught... except...your supposed to.. err IF you go the way the game want's you to.

Nope. I've only recently found the secret escape passage to the Solitude prisons. After that, I did make a mental note to try that sometime (getting jailed in every hold at least once) if nothing else but to find any secret passages.

Try getting imprisoned and breaking out in Raven Rock. You'll find a location which I'm pretty sure is the least visited in the whole game, it can be seen in the official Dragonborn trailer though.

And for the OP, I think you can use the atronach forge to summon either a frost atronach or frost salts, depending on what you prefer.

Thanks, but The Chill was the most natural option for my hunter/ranger. Made the trek out to Winterhold by way of Nightgate Inn and Winward pass. Spent a couple days in town while a storm blew through, then headed down to the water. Did fall in a couple times, but quickly made fires and pitched a tent to recover (am using Frostfall). Found the prison relatively easily and got the Frost Atronach inside as well (also pretty easily). Spent the night to avoid freezing and made a run for it in the morning (day was bright and clear fortunately).

Accessing the Atronach Forge means rubbing elbows with the mage college (which my PC wouldn't be interested in doing) and having a flawless sapphire (which my PC is extremely unlikely to find as a hunter) so that was a no-go. Great suggestion, though! I should have remembered that option on my own...

I never knew about the chill... I always avoid to do something bringing me to jail, except for an accident.

Skyrim is always a surprise!
