help installing FOSE

Post » Mon Oct 11, 2010 11:28 am

I know this is probably a dumb question, but what are the actual steps?

I'm at about 4 hours searching and screwing around, and can't find the method written down anywhere.... what's step 1, step 2, etc.

I'm probably just too ignorant of terminology, or just haven't the imagination to type the right things into search....

I think I succesfully loaded the FOMM, and the awesome looking FWE MOD into it, but when I launch the game, a nice green FO3 type box comes up after a minute and tells me I don't have F.O.S.E. installed correctly, and even tells me the website to get it from.

Thanks for any help!! I'm so stoked to try some mods...

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
E8400 @ 3.00GHz

[ Installation ]

1. Copy the .dll files and fose_loader.exe to your Fallout 3 directory. This is usually in your Program Files folder, and should contain files called Fallout3.exe, FalloutLauncher.exe and the G.E.C.K. (if installed).

2. Launch Fallout by running fose_loader.exe from the Fallout3 directory.

If you use a desktop shortcut to launch Fallout 3 normally, just update the shortcut to point to fose_loader.exe instead of Fallout3.exe or FalloutLauncher.exe.

With http://www.mediafire.com/?dgd3xyio0mv loaded, you can check for FOSE by entering the console command, Show FOSE, just in case you want to know you've got it in right. If FOSE's installed, you'll see a value returned in the form of Value = http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1104312-help-installing-fose/X.YZ where X = FOSE version, Y = beta version, and Z = revision number, so FOSE v1.2 b2 is 1.22. If it returns a 0, FOSE is not installed properly or you've not used the FOSE loader to start the game.

Alternatively, http://www.mediafire.com/?52jfxhedmjn will make your head explode if FOSE is not running or give you ten caps if it is. Might be a quicker way to test...

Thanks, you guys!

I finally found the way in the MODS FAQ (go figure, right?) under "manual loading of mods" or however they say it.

Been playing for a couple of hours. FWE is pretty cool, more realistic by far, and also more dangerous.

Cheers, K.
