Help Installing mods...

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 7:39 am

When I extract my mods I extract them to my Data Files folder. However they never seem to work when I try I actually have to go in and by trial and error fix it. Even if I follow the Readme file I can never seem to get it to work the first try.

The only thing that I have working right now is Better Heads/Better Bodies.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? What should I do??

Any help will be appreciated.

Look inside your data files folder and make sure you haven't created a second data files folder within it , if so take the contents out of the second and drop them into your main data files folder.

Installing mods is very simple. The data files folder keeps the resource files the game needs to run , a mod is simply a collection of additional resources whilst your objective is to place the mod's resource files into the corresponding resource folders that the game uses.

eg If a mod includes a meshes folder then your objective is to get the contents of that folder and paste them into the meshes folder within your morrowind/data files
folder , do the same with the textures folder etc

Don't forget to activate any esp or esm files in the Morrowind launcher.

Like this , first unpack the mod using an archiving utility such as 7 zip , winrar , izarc , etc

I had many duplicate data files but only the first two have stuff in them. I deleted the empty files but I think I've somehow screwed something up.. damnit.

You're better off not trying to extract into Data. Extract the file onto your desktop. That way you can examine it to see if there are extra folders or other path problems. Then move the files manually to the appropriate location in your Data folder.

It seems that I have a lot of stuff scattered throughout my MW folders and data files. Should I just uninstall/reinstall MW and start from scratch to make sure I don't have any crap? Would it be easier if I took screenshots of this crap and posted it so I know what I can do to correct this? Sorry about all the trouble. I have to go to work in about 20 minutes but I'll check back when I get home thanks a ton!!

I'll keep that in mind.

No need to reinstall as most likely the junk is harmless and easy to delete. Feel free to post screenshots if you want to learn.
