Help, lag on second load

Post » Thu Sep 19, 2013 6:31 pm

I don't know if this is the correct place for this post so I posted here as it is the genral section.

I recently got skyrim and was exited to play. So I downloaded the latest patch and lots of great mods.

Then after loading all mods, I start the game and play for the first time with no problem. Then the next day, the loading screen starts loading forever. When I press Ctrl Alt Delete and acess task manager, the loading stops and the game begins, but with lots of lag. So I reduce to least setting and no change. If I start a new game, again I can play without lag, and If I save a game, exit and load again , the same problem is seen. it is as if I can play however much I want without saving and quitting.

I tried a new install, with only the game and DLC's. Again the above problem repeats.

So I only install the game. Even then the same problem occurs(without the update).

My PC has the following specs :

Graphics : Nvidia Geforce 650M

Processor : Intel® Core™ i7 3630QM CPU @2.40GHz

As far as that kinda stuff, generally I have one or two main saves then the 3 default auto-saves that occur from waiting, fast traveling, or entering new cells. If I have more saves than that, the game tends to lag hard for me. The less save file data the less lag.

In regards to mods, I don't use them, so can't be given any solid advice on that. From a common sense perspective, mods could result in lag because they are added components to the game, but like I said I don't use mods.

AFAIK, such lag occurs when the VRAM is collapsed and the game has to run textures from the main RAM. I also suffer it sometimes, after loading multiple cells, or in cells with a lot of fog. I think it's particularly prone to happen in relatively old computers, like yours and mine, and even in 360/PS3 (kudos to Bethesda for their engine optimization...). Try disabling AA. That consumes a lot of VRAM. A lower resolution may also help.

Otherwise, it may also be a mod conflict. Post your load order and make sure you BOSSify it, and also that you don't have dirty mods installed.
