Help on Larius Varro's quest

Post » Thu Aug 04, 2011 4:11 pm

My character got the quest from Larius Varro in Fort Moonmoth, the request to kill the Cammona Tong members in Balmora's Council Club. I thought it would be simple enough; taunt them until they attack me, then kill them. The problem is, did not attack me, even after their disposition was at zero, and I successfully taunted them. Simply murdering them did not work out too well for me either, due to the massive bounty I gained afterwards.

Is there a different way to go about completing this? From what I gathered by looking at his dialog in TES CS, he said something about a discreet way of doing it. I am not sure how to go about it. How do I do it?

You must level their disposition by giving gold, at least 3 times 1000 and then taunt. When it arrives at zero, start again (all that gold will be recuperated). I tried 5 times before I read GOOD BYE in red. Wait then a few minutes before they attack you, then kill them. Recuperate all your money!!! When Speechcraft is low, it's not easy to do it quickly. You can train it before if you prefer. Good luck:-)

that's not correct. it's easy to taunte people into attacking you even with a low speech skill. all you do is repeatedly hit taunt over and over and over again. most of the time it will say fail, but after multiple successfull attempts, 4-5 on average for me, the npc will say goodbye and attack you.

If your illusion is moderate or if you have some money to enchant, create a spell/item with a frenzy humanoid magnitude of 100 for 1, 2 or 3 seconds*. They will get violent and you wont get a bounty.

*I'm running MPP and MCP which mess with the calm/frenzy effect, so I find that I need to have the effect last for 3 seconds in order for the effect to work properly. I'm not sure if it is a bug particular to me or to those mods though.

Okay, thanks, I appreciate it. I guess I didn't let taunt work enough, I only had about 2 successful taunts before I assumed it wasn't working. :pinch:

I thought about the Frenzy Humanoid spell, but I figured it would count as an assault? I'll have to try that.

that's the beauty of frenzy, charm and calm; they don't count as assault.

I think Tamrielic society, as a whole, has a very magicka-leaning bias that needs to be addressed.

Please don't say it's not correct before checking it!!!! I have just checked UESP where it says: Quote:

Taunts are much less effective when their disposition goes down O. You can repeatedly bribe them to raise their disposition and then taunt again.......

Anyway it's how I always did it and found it easier as the money is always recuperated and it also trains your skill.

Now... Do you agree with that? Of course anybody has its own way to reach the solution but, giving a correct answer I feel sorry to see that you say: That's not correct;-)

See, that was my problem. My Speechcraft was moderate, around 45 I think, but still I failed Taunt about 90% of the time. I finally got a reaction out of him three times, but never the red "Goodbye" that I needed. Then again, I was also under the impression that once Disposition reached zero, the NPC would attack. Maybe that was Oblivion instead...

Going to try the quest again very soon with the advice given here. Thanks. :)

Good, let us know if it went well. But be careful. Taunt the female NPC while facing them all and SAVE after good bye... They will ALL attack you. Not easy:-)

Success!

I saved before attempting to taunt each person, and quick loaded if I failed. It took anywhere from 3-5 successful taunts to get the red Goodbye. Was able to kill the Smith without the others interfering, When the Savant attacked, the two females in the room joined him. The woman in the back room was the easiest to anger, while the Publican was the most difficult. I do not think he needed to die, but killed him anyway. He took forever to anger, it took four successful taunts, and then two failed taunts to get him to attack me.

If it helps to know, I have 100 Personality, and 46 Speechcraft.

I got the best reward from Larrius Varro, the ring and the book.

Again, thanks a lot for the advice. You guys on this forum have been great, I really appreciate it. :)
