Help needed with lore snippets for a mod

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 10:25 am

Greetings lore masters/mistresses of TES! I have come here to ask your assistance with a mod project I am working on. What I need is about two-hundred and fifty different snippets of lore to describe some game objects. They need to be short (20-30 words) but interesting and consistent with TES lore.

For Example: "This *object* was presented to Tiber Septim on his 25th birthday by King Cuhlecain for his service to the crown."

If you would be interested in working on something like this with me please post below and I will message you here with more details on the objects and the mod itself so you will have a better idea of the sorts of lore snippets I need. I don't expect one person to write all two-hundred and fifty of them (though I won't stop you) so it would be great if several people volunteered. Anyone that adds to the project will be credited and informed when the mod is released. Thanks in advance for any participation!

P.S. I apologize if this topic should be placed in the mod section but I thought since it was about lore I should come to the source and post it here instead.

Thank you for all of the responses but I'm afraid I might have been misunderstood. That sentence was just an example of the type of lore snippets I will need. I don't need 250 modified version of that sentence. I need 250 different lore snippets to describe 250 different objects. Sorry for the confusion! Please post below or message me if you would like to participate.

It might be hard to come up with 250 wholly different 'things' to attribute all the artifacts to.
Maybe you could group some of them with something like:

This is one of the 13 staves rumoured to have been used by Mannimarco before he was expelled from the Psijics.

Or:

Once a part of the fabled Direnni collection of Ayleid artifacts. No soul has worn the full Ayleid armour set since the Direnni stronghold was raided by thieves in the second era.

Just post what you need, and I guarantee, you'll get more excellent responses than what you'll know what to do with.

Ok. I'll just lay it all out here so everyone can understand exactly what I mean. I really appreciate all the responses so far! The mod I'm working on is an expanded version of my moderately successful holiday http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=14190 mod. The idea is to have all sorts of different looking eggs hidden throughout the world. You can see some of the textures I've made so far on the Easter Egg Hunt mod page at Nexus as well (the ones from the Easter version won't be used in the new mod). I have not decided if every egg will be completely different or if there will 50 textures repeated 5 times each but probably the latter.

Each egg will have a powerful potion effect and be worth a good amount of gold (probably 500). When an egg is picked up a message window will appear with a little piece of lore, like the example I gave, to describe something about each egg's history. Which is what I need you all for! There will be 250 eggs hidden throughout Skyrim. In dungeons, wilderness areas, and just about every place else outside of towns and cities. The idea is to give players a reason to pay a bit more attention when looking around the world, a bit more reward for traveling off the beaten path, and some powerful potions, extra gold, or just something out of the ordinary to decorate houses with. I would do it myself (and will if I have to) but I already have my work cut out for me with this mod and my lore knowledge isn't the best.

Example: "This Ruby Egg was presented to Tiber Septim on his 25th birthday by King Cuhlecain for his service to the crown."

Example: "The Leafy Egg is said to have been crafted by Bosmer artisans at the end of the first era but it's exact origins are unknown"

This is the spear of Vehk. Its been around...

Ahem...are you looking for actual trinkets and doo-dads found actually in lore, or at least referenced somewhat, or do we just hurl around random ideas. I'm going to go ahead and assume actual lore items described in books, albeit these things would be fairly obscure and will require a good amount of researching for tiny things. An idea I like to use are various things the heros of previous Elder Scrolls games may or may not have had in their possession, barring the artifacts we already know of, although thats going into fan fiction territory in a way.

Aw, man. Only eggs? Really? Really? I guess that makes my efforts irrelevant. Oh well, posting the unfinished fragment anyway.

This Daedric Egg was an ornament in Sanguine's palace, which he gave to one of his mortal champions.
This Puzzle Egg can only be opened by twisting it open in the right way. Although made for Dwemer children, and often containing candies or small toys, the extinction of the Dwemer has made these eggs prized collectors items.
This Vehk Egg is half gold, half iron. It represents the egg Vivec was said to have hatched from, and was made to match his grey and gold skin coloring.
This is one of the seven golden eggs that were found in Pudai Eggmine by the Fighter's Guild.
This Hist Egg is an example of fine Argonian craftsmanship. It is made to resemble an Argonian egg, and a Hist Tree is engraved on it in gold.
This Giant Kwama Egg was produced from a Telvanni Eggmine after magical experiments. Sadly, the Kwama Queen who produced the giant eggs died in the Red Year.

Those are perfect. I'll defiantly use them. Thank you!

The Egg of Chaos was the center of power found in the Eternal Champion's weapon, which smote Jagar Tharn.

The Womb of Talos is a crude clay sculpture made by Heimskr, a priest of Talos in central Skyrim, shortly before he was killed mercilessly by an unknown assailant. It bears markings resembling a wheel and a tower.

The Pommel of Muatra formed part of the tip of Vivec's infamous spear. May or may not be of biological krigin.

Unnamed Ayelidoon Objectoid-B33 A* is a beautifully crafted piece of marble that, as proven by an experiment performed by the long-lost scholar Tarhiel, fits snugly at the very top of White-Gold Tower.

Paarthurnax's Lost Tooth rings with the power of the Thu'um, and has been used as a drinking horn by many Nordic kings.
