Battlespire's all... weird, and because of the stuff it uses, I don't think it's possible.

I STILL have a ZIP file for this, so that people don't have to go through everything, but I still need to find a temporary place to host it, so that someone could get it and give it a more permanent one. Maybe I'll try Tripod again.

Well, I'm told that they won't sticky a thread until it's got info for all of the past games. I have a full guide for Arena, and more than just what's found in this thread, but it's fairly useless considering that I've never even tried to run any of the other games on an XP system.

I am trying it right now on daggerfall If it works I will tell you!

Edit: it works but it gets weird sound bugs like fuzzy and repeating and the movies look exceptionally fuzzy but the gameplay is fine and runs at a good speed! :goodjob:

OK, can anyone help me? I've done everything that's suggested in this topic, but still I can't get Arena to work under XP. Every time, after I exit the character creation screen and have gotten my first "dream" (just after the lady stops speaking), the screen goes black. Also, I Never have any sound or music?! I tried all that's been suggested here, but it still won't work. Help much appreciated

Um, I think you should post your config.sys and autoexec.bat that you have set up for a.exe.
Also, you could add the following to this autoexec.bat, near the end, in front of the invocation of arena (if there is any).

and see how many memory is available.
It should be 590 or more.

Thanks Unknown NPC and buckiboy, I'll try what you suggest when I have time (I'm at school at the moment :s ) It may take a while (just got a difficult assignment) but I can already tell you that I don't have Service Pack(t) 2 installed; because of the issues it creates....

I try running arena and it says C:\arena\a.exe
c:\dos\autoexec.bat. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application.

it then gives me the options of 'close' or 'ignore', ignore does nothing.
ive followed all the steps above, but can any one help me?

It's incorrectly. You must be ARENA.BAT run.

I got it running now but the mouse doesn't work on some pages, ive followed all the above steps.

It is MOUSECTL.COM "not connected".
If you use my method and mousectl.com be in Arena-dir found?

When you get to the point in the game where you can move around, you can use the - and + keys to slow down/speed up the game.

Okay I've tried everything here and I've gone from having the game crash upon opening to starting and then showing a screen that say not enough EMS. I saw that a few other people had this problem but I didn't see any solutions. Can anyone help me out?

Anyone having problems with sound? I can not get it to work with any setting, unless maybe there is no music or sound in the intro..

After countless hours of trying to decifer the black magic of ems configuration on my clapped-out Win98 laptop JUST so I could play this game, after endless disappointments and almost-there's, you provide the solution to running Arena - with XP, on my blackbox desktop with two files and some minor tweaking...

While I realise (after the fact) that this a common method for running DOS games on XP, it does not lessen in any way you bringing it all together in one post.
