Help Me!

Post » Fri Oct 16, 2009 11:21 am

hi, I have a problem with saving my mod, ok so I have a mod in progress right? I decide to save it and come back to it later, so then when i go back to it and load all the stuff (morrowind.esm and MyMod.esp) and then i work on it some more, and then i try to save it and it doesn't save it just says this:

file "MyMod.esp" is a master file or is in use, please select another file to save to.

why does it say that? can someone help?

EDIT: fixed, thanks to Pluto

This sounds like it might be a Vista or 7 issue with UAC.

When launching the CS exe, right-click, and select,, "Run as administrator". Load your esp and save.

Hope that helps.

Is your mod an ESP or ESM (you have written both in your question)

You cannot make change to an ESM.
If it is an ESP, you have to remember to set your ESP as the Active File.

Then you can't alter it. If you have a ton of work that you don't want to loose, you can change it to an ESP.
Unless you're making a very large mod, there is not really any reason to use an ESM. A simple ESP is the standard way to make mods.

Is there any possibility you renamed a .esm to .esp? If so, that won't work because there is a bit set in the header of the plugin that says whether the plugin is a master or just a regular plugin. So if you did that, you'll need to change it back to .esm like it was, then use the Wrye Mash function to "Copy to ESP". There are other tools that can do that too.

Did you set your mod as the Active File in the CS?

You have to do that each time you work on it, otherwise you cannot Save it because the CS thinks you're trying to save the Morrowind.esm

How to:
Under the Data Files in the CS, double click Morrowind.esm, and then highlight your mod and click "Set as Active File" button in the lower left corner. Then "OK"
