Help tweaking AEVWD -Lite-

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:18 am

Wow, never thought a fully modded Oblivion can make a Core i7, HD 585,0 4 gig DDR3 setup struggle to stay above 10 FPS.

Only when looking at Imperial city though.

I originally had the full version on and it was unplayable looking certain directions, but after installing the -LITE- version, it's much better.

My question is this:
What did the lite version do, or more specifically, what can I do to make it even 'Liter'. Can I delete some files in my Data folder, or is this stuff coded on additional files to say what is rendered?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Use http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1046403-relz-really-aevwd-thread-5/page__view__findpost__p__15177825__fromsearch__1 - Which is way more optimized - Get the OMOD installer and install what you need ..Do not use the plugins if you are looking for performance..

OMOD Installer - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24701 <-- Corepc is 200% right. Do not use other VWD mods, unless you just want to shoot your computer for some reason...

Thanks for that guys.

After installing that, it seemed to look much better, but I'm at 15FPS after checking with tdt.

I had a steady 60 before the WVD mods were installed.

Should I uninstall? Or should I try without Imperial City?

It was your choice to add the VWD mod. Drop it if you are unwilling to make the performance trade. I presume you are not running TES4LODGen either. That might knock another few FPS off, haha...

I did run that program a little while back, but I haven't after a couple changes I've been making.

I deactivated the mod in OBMM, and I'm still around 26fps. Better, but I swore I had 60FPS locked before. Does deactivating the mod return all those textures and meshes to the Vanilla style, or is there any extra step I have to go to fall back to those settings?

I seem to remember that other people have reported FPS issues with the Imperial City plugin in particular. Though... I might be getting that confused with Better Cities (Imperial City) + VWD of that - not too sure at the moment.

Have you tried checking frame rates in other places? If so, what's the difference, if any?

Deactivating the mod will only help so much. RAEVWD is big because of the data file changes. Running TES4LODGen will further spread its changes. By the way, you should rerun TES4LODGen after making changes to your load order anyway...

Edit: Many users make the mistake of deactivating a mod instead of uninstalling it, when they are trying to revert the game to "mod's content is not loaded" status. Those actions often do not have the same result. If the mod you installed is just a plugin, then that works. However, even in that case, having an additional plugin in the Data folder also matters (but usually not enough for people to care.)

Re-running TES4LODGen now. Expecting more of an FPS drop, as people said.

So what would my course of action be if I want to remove this mod and get the original files back?

Well... Uninstall the mod entirely, and rerun TES4LODGen. You have just created a bunch of LOD files with RAEVWD enhanced data. The game should look nice though. Maybe you should take some screen shots to capture the moments. :D

Hmmm... You can also look at the bottom of the first post of my site's thread for ways to optimize and stabilize the game. If you go as far as PyFFI-optimizing the vanilla meshes, you should see a significant increase in FPS. If you are already using all of those things, your system is not powerful enough to run that mod (well.)

Edit: I missed the HD 5850 thing, but, welcome to the joys of using visual enhancement mods. As much as I respect Arthmoor (and use a number of his mods) I have not added that beast to my setup.

Edit: Don't get me wrong. He went to great lengths to optimize that mod. You will not find better. If you like it enough, keep it. Try the suggestions I have on my site. You should definitely see an improvement, I just do not know if that will be enough for you. Getting ~20-30FPS constant with heavily-modified (especially with REAVWD) Oblivion is very good.

Thanks for all the info. It looks like this mod is just not worth it to me. I'd like to go back to the original settings. I've got the mod disabled, but not uninstalled, or "deleted" from OBMM. If I delete it and re-run TES4LODGen, will that get me back to original settings?

Edit: Gonna try what you said and uninstall completely, which I think includes what I said above.

Yes. Uninstalling completely will require running TES4LODGen, in order to remove REAVWD's data from those LOD files. The other thing is that OBMM's functionality is such that if you have mods installed with files overlapping with REAWVD's, those files REAWVD's will not be uninstalled with the OMOD. OBMM things "well, the files are owned by someone (don't know who that is) so I have to leave them there," basically... Complete uninstallation (guaranteed) would thereby require the re-installation of those overlapping OMODs, but the effort that would go into figuring that out might not be worth it.

To both of you:

There is a reason RAEVWD is a modular install, and why BAIN is the superior method for installing it. Also, the readme mentions ways to improve the situation if the FPS hit is just too much.

That said, expecting Oblivion to lock at 60fps is unrealistic even on super high end equipment. It's just not likely to happen unless you have a small mod setup and stick with vanilla graphics. It's not a shooter and doesn't require the insanity of Crysis-level support.

Desperately need help getting rid of this mod now. Game is unplayable, and I think the amount of installing and uninstalling and replacing meshes and textures hasn't helped me at all.

Is there something available that will restore the defaults for most of this stuff?

Any help greatly appreciated.

After uninstalling the mod, delete the DLOD folder.

Edit: --in Oblivion\Data
