Hey dudes, Ive been messing around on Skyrim with Frostfall, Hunterborn, and BasicNeeds&Diseases. These three work together seamlessly to produce an environment where you are more fragile than and vulnerable than simply being attacked by bandits and creatures. You have the need to eat, drink, sleep, protect against disease, and protect yourself from the environment.
Along with these hazards you are given the skills to combat them. You get 'survival skills' which allows you to make campfires to keep warm and have camping supplies like tents and portable cooking pots added to the crafting lists. The existing fur armors protect against cold, and the existing foods as well as new additions are assigned values to ward off hunger. The beauty of adding Hunterborn to the mix is that it offers you pretty much everything you need to take care of the hazards all on its own without needing a store... When you kill an animal you get its hide, its meat, and its logical 'ingredient' parts. You can forage 'firewood' to make a mobile tanning rack so you dont even need to go into town if you dont want to...
All that being said, I am the all or nothing 'Ranger' type, and after seeing this kind of stuff happen in Skyrim, I dont think I can play elderscrolls any other way... I have sworn off fast travel and huff it from one place to the other like a good adventurer should and I find that it actually takes days of game time to get from one place to the other (especially with frozen landscapes) and I really do stop to think about the basics of, where do I get water? I know veterans who say 'drink! drink! drink!' because believe it or not the vast majority of people are dehydrated and dont even know it. So, I set the thirst speed to the maximum requiring that I drink a good four or so times more than I eat... If you stay within reach of a stream or forage snow your golden, but what if your in the great planes or the mountains where there isnt water? I also factored in how abundant the animals are in the world so to make it more than trivial I set the meat produced by animals to a very small minimum, that way you cant get five deer in one day and have six months worth of food in an hour... Realistic spoilage is also important because you can just walk into a store and get a months worth of whatever for cheap and your set, well cooked food only lasts a good 2-4 days max... So getting more food all the time is a big deal and frankly I find it extremely enjoyable... I have been in situations where I really need something to eat and im starting to starve because of poor planning and that one goat I stumble across in the woods was a god send... I ate all the way from starvation and had a good bit left over that got me to my next kill, if your a fan of this kind of stuff then this really is the only way to play...
I dont know if you can tell but this is something that I am really passionate about, if stuff like this exists for Morrowind I consider it a crime for it not to be known by the community, and if it doesnt exist I consider that a crime also...
Thanks in advance.
