Help Wanted: Name That Sound

I am looking for someone with a good ear and plenty of patience to help me assign unique text IDs to Daggerfall’s sound effects. Ideally this person has enough familiarity with Daggerfall to recall where a particular sound effect is used in the game.

These text IDs will be used in http://www.ruinsofhilldeep.com/ by the editor and scripts when playing sounds for monsters, spell effects, the environment, and so on. Each text ID will map to a sound index in DAGGER.SND and should be clear and descriptive. For example “skeletalwarrior_idle”, “skeletalwarrior_attack”, and “skeletalwarrior_pain” would be good examples of the kind of thing I’m looking for.

If this is something you think you can help with, I’d love to hear from you. I will provide an easy-to-use tool for listening to and naming the sounds. This tool will save your IDs to a format I can then use in my project.

Of course, anyone able to help with this will be given credit in a special thanks section. :)

I feel like I have done this sort of thing a couple times before, so I could try and give it a shot :biggrin:

Won't be until the weekend though, or maybe tomorrow if I have some free time.

I can do this as well, if you'd like to divide and conquer (or simply have a second opinion for confirmation). I've got a good ear for Daggerfall :smile:

This as already been done to an extent by the creator of the quest template compiler. With the compile in the src directory theres a small text database with useful information, including descriptions of sounds.

In case you don't have the compiler tool here's the contents of 'sounds.src'. I believe the names ending with _1, _2, _3 correspond to the states you are referring to for each actor. Other sounds are mostly environment sounds.

Ah! I remember seeing that list way back in the early days. I had completely forgotten where I saw it and assumed it to be lost. Thank you for putting me back in touch with it.

I will map those values in as a starting point for Arctus and Jormungandr. That still leaves almost half the sound effects unaccounted for but it's an excellent start.

You guys are all totally amazing. Thank you for helping out. :)
