Help, which guns to choose -- Brush, Marksman Carbine, other

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 2:41 pm

Hi,

I am at a point in the game, around level 20, where Gun Runners seems to now have most if not all of their inventory available for sale. I did some limited testing on the Gun Runner guards and still not sure if any of the new guns offer me much above what I have.

I currently have:
Sniper, w/silencer
Trail Carbine, no mods
Cow Boy Repeater, w/full mods
Assault Carbon, w/ext mag
Guns skill at 99

The Trail Carbon is my weapon of choice for medium to close quarters when I do not need the power of the Sniper and the CBR is there for the small stuff. The Assault Carbon is for lightly armored targets and cause I loved the unique Chinese AR from FO3. I wish there were more assault rifles in FONV with full auto.

Is the anti-material just a more powerful but slower firing sniper type? It seems like it and I do not think I need this yet. I am pretty sure I can take down Deathclaws with just the sniper with AP ammo.

The Brush Gun and Marksman Carbon seem redundant to what I have and I am not sure there is reason to upgrade. I guess the Marksman Carbon could replace my CBR--much better sights. Is the Brush better than the Trail Carbon? DAM and DPS are not the only factors as range and accuracy are equally if not more important. In my limited testing, the Brush Gun at med to close distance did not seem much better than the Trail Carbine and inferior to the Sniper.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

This might belong in the spoiler section -

I say, if you are happy with what you have, then keep going, until you are no longer happy.

Have you tried the "All-American"? It seems to be one of the unique guns that fits what you are looking for. Also the M1Gerand called "This Machine" might be another to try out.

Anti Material rifle is a little overpowered imo. It basicly kills everything in the game no problem :P Incindiary .50 cal is like the cherry on top.

Yes, I am happy and will take your advice and stand pat for now. I am just curious to know if say the Brush Gun is the next step up from the Trail Carbine. Ahh, I should just keep playing. Since enemies respawn, I will easily be able to afford every gun in the store and can try them all out extensively.

I have not yet found many unique guns but I am definitely looking forward to finding the two you mentioned.

I alternate between the following:

General use: Trail Carbine with scope. I use this for general purpose shoosting. Works great if you aim for the head, packs a good punch and fires PDQ.
Assault: Assault Carbine with ext mags. This is for when I have to get up close and personal with a few armored foes.
Heavy/long range: Anti-Materiel Rifle. This is reserved for Deathclaw, Nightkin, and long-range snipes I can't make with the TC
Contingency Plan: Light Machine Gun with extended drum. This is for things like the endgame. Basically, when either A: I want to immitate Heavy Weapons Guy but lack the STR for a minigun, or B: When the excrement hits the air circulator.

I found a killer combination for my character today. Put a custom lever action and extended magazines on a hunting rifle and stock up on .308 AP ammo. That way you've got a 10 round clip that you can rattle off like a semi-auto rifle, with nearly the power of a sniper rifle. I'm sure there are better combinations, but I love the iron sights on the hunting rifle, and it feels like the 98K from DoD on speed... That's enough for me.
