Help with character nameing

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 12:41 pm

Heey, guys. I haven't been on this forum for a long time and i thought i would start to replay one of the best games ever made. So i have been making some character concepts and im almost done. All i need is some good names. And since im terrible at thinking of good names (the fact that english isn't my native lanuage doesn't help) i would like to ask you guys for help.

-A female NCR ranger good karma

-A male legion frumentarii good karma

-A female House mercenary evil karma

-A male BOS paladin with evil karma

ugh, I too hate naming.

Only one is for the NCR Ranger be 'Ranger *insert something badass sounding*" ... but you'd probably already thought as much!

Wow i also svck at naming characters, my first three characters were named after my last name, courier, and finally Shepard. I played Shepard sorta like a full paragon Shepard form mass effect, talked everyone possible down and settled things in the best possible way.

Courier was a generic protagonist who i used to complete ncr and legion playthroughs (my least favorite faction choices)

Brutus is a good name, for anyone, NCR or Legion. Totally an intimidating name, along with Kaiser (his one is close to my heart because this word is used for the weapons a large, fearsome creature uses, called the Ultralisk, using its claws that are named Kaiser Blades, that are monomolecular and can slice through any material with ease). You might as well cook up your own name with a brainstorm.

just name your guy Courier.

Names i use personally

Evil Playthrough Male / Female = Cholo , Jessica Scorpion

Neutral Playthrough Male / Female = Courier , Sky

dislike using last names because it seems kind of pointless imo. Also Red is a pretty good name for anyone and would probably fit any profile.

You do realize that Kaiser is an evolution of Caesar, right? You'll be naming yourself Caesar #2 basically.

Technically, yes, but Kaiser has been used and abused in the history of mankind. Kaiser is in Germany, Roman history, and even used at a hospital. Go figure, it's a lovely name (and for me, seeing as it means "Emperor", along with the use in Starcraft on blades that make every other creature fear them in the known sector, I took the name). So in other words, you can thank Caesar for the name, as it's been used to the point any system or faction can use it without feeling 'roman' like.

Caesar is pronounced to sound like Kaiser.

The Actual world Kaiser came from Germany, which derived from the pronunciation of Caesar. In an way, They derive from each other, but are different as well.

Kaiser is Emperor and Caesar is the last name OF an Emperor. Pretty cool stuff, IMO.

I don't play as male characters, so I can't help you there.

But if you'd like a female name, feel free to use mine: Violynne. Yep, just like the instrument. It looks nice and it's pretty unique.

My last character was named Akari, named after a character in one of my favorite anime series ever.

I would try thinking up something unique, so you can call it your own. A play on words or phrases, as I did above, works really well.

I typically play as female characters and I have three basic methods:

Random first name, e.g.: Ashley, Alicia, Anna, Bianca, Zoe, etc

Comicbook naming convention, e.g.: Pollyanna Purin, Carla Chamomile, etc

And the new one I'm trying this playthrough: Spy comedy false name (You know, when the spy can't give his real name so he looks around the environment for inspiration). I ended up with: Fane Clockgrey.

As far as pronunciation goes, both "See-zar" and "Kai-sar" are technically correct - the former is the English pronunciation and the latter is the more appropriate Latin pronunciation.
