Help With Distant Objects

Post » Tue Aug 31, 2010 5:56 pm

Hey everyone, quick question that I can't find an answer for:

I'm making a mod for a ship thats parked in the tidal basin. Thing is, due to backstory, its meant to be HUGE. Like it can hold a modern cities worth of people.
So i built it and it looks fine but the pop in effect is really annoying because right now it looks like theres only half a ship and you have to go to the next cell for the rest to load. Also the guns sometimes look like they're floating because you can see them from further away than the main body.

So my question is: Is there any way of making it so I can see the body in the distance (like with buildings)? The body is made out of the square airforceadams bases btw.

thanks :tops:

When you start your game from the start menu (be sure your CD is in the drive), there's an options menu you can enter in there. Go into "custom" and find the view distance for stuff, and make it be longer.

See if that helps.

Thanks tarrant =) but thats not really what I meant. I have all settings on "ultra" but I kinda meant is there any way to make it like the washington monument or the skyline buildings so that it doesn't dissapear at such a short distance.

You could try to fake it.

Did you ever take the elevator to the top of the washington monument?

Take a look at WashMonTop worldspace I guess, maybe some solution like that.

There is a check box on the properties tab "Visible When Distant". You need to check that box for each reference, you also need a mesh to use. Looks like they add "_lod" to the end of the mesh name to distinguish it as the distant object. So like MyBuilding_lod.NIF, typically it will use a low poly version of the mesh because it's far away and doesn't need to be as detailed, but you can use the same mesh if you want. You also have to rebuild the LOD info under World after you have all of them checked to make it show in game.
