Help with Fraps

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 10:23 am

Long story short, I'm thinking of downloading Fraps, to help taking screenshots easier, but their website is very unclear on what the restrictions/differences between free and pay are. Also, is it one of those programs that if you get the free version it constanty tries to make you buy the full? Also, does anyone know of any free alternitives? Any help is welcomed.

I've never had it nag me to upgrade to the full version. One of the restrictions is that you can only save screenshots as bmp files, but they're easy enough to convert to jpegs or PNGs afterwards so that's not really a problem in my opinion. I've been using it the past couple of years or so and it's been very reliable and unobtrusive, so I'm quite happy with it. :)

I haven't used fraps for a year or so, but as far as i'm aware you can take screenshots and record gameplay as much as you want for free without being pressured into paying.

Oh yeah, that's another restriction I forgot about: recording gameplay is limited to 30 seconds in the free version, although given the amount of space taken up and the number of times I accidentally hit the "record" key before finally disabling it, this is probably a useful feature as far as I'm concerned!

Okay, thanks. Since I just wanted it for screenshots that's fine.

....and it will be watermarked.

I have the payed version and it was worth every penny to me. (I believe I payed $20 though, but that was years ago. It's $37 now.)
