Help with Leveling

Post » Thu Dec 01, 2011 6:56 am

I need some advice on how to level in the quickest and most efficient way. My goal is to reach level 24 so that I will encounter Dremora Valkynaz, and then I can close all random Oblivion gates and finish the main quest. So far I'm just under-leveling. I could potentially level up a few more times before I would have to train my major skills again, however, I want to be efficient and have +5 bonuses for each of my stats. This way, no matter what I choose, I'll have a substantial increase in my attributes, and I won't be at a disadvantage when I face higher-leveled enemies.

Is there a way to level so that +5 bonuses could be awarded to any attribute (except for luck) at each of my level ups? Can I train minor skills to do this, or do I need major skills to level in order to receive bonuses?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Yes you can train Minors for that. If fact if you want to level efficiently, and control your bonuses, it's better to train your Minors. Then when you want to level, train your Majors. That way you won't get behind in the count, so to speak. You should find a balance of your Majors to Minors to level quickly at the same time. Now, what those are, and how you address them depends on your initial selection of Majors and Minors. As well as your character and playstyle.

To catch up in the count, you need to train Minors to a high point, and use those, exclusively. Until you catch up. Like if Blade is a Major at 30. And, Blunt is a Minor at 20. Use Blunt instead and raise it to 50 or even higher. That way you have a weapon that is ahead in the count, and you can play the game, until you get ready to level up.

Or you can just grind for levels, if that's that what you want. And use your Minors to get your +5 Bonuses.

EDIT : It's hard to put "quickly" and "efficiently" in the same sentence. As one contradicts the other.

The subject of efficient leveling is rather complex. Rather than trying to do justice to it myself, let me recommend a couple resouces:

1. This is the UESP take on it and covers the basics: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Efficient_Leveling

2. This a much longer and more detailed guide that is simply the best resource on the subject I have found. Again, it is long: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/924363-the-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion/faqs/42091

If you patiently read both those links in order and in detail, you should emerge with a solid mastery of the subject. That should provide you the tools and knowledge to decide if efficient leveling is for you.

Thanks to you both for the invaluable information!
I think I understand now about how the bonuses work, and how the minor skills will roll over to the next level up BUT if I already have the 10 Major increases before the minor increases, the bonuses stay fixed. This was the main issue I was having, and now I know how to fix it!

I'll be slaying Valkynaz in no time.
