Help with my mage class RP please

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 9:24 am

I want to make a Breton Necromancer but I am curious about RPing one.. I never have before and I am not sure if I should use all schools of magic as a "pure" mage. Or if I should skip destruction and replace it with a tangible weapon like swords or use the conjured sword? Also how viable is Necromancy over conjuring atronachs? All thoughts on this RP are welcome, I am really looking forward to reading everybody's ideas. Thank you all in advance :)

No! No melee or ranged weapons use ice magic as your defense weapon and the undead you summon are your offense weapon.

If I were to play Necromancer, I'd at least use a dagger to protect myself with. Plenty of NPC Necromancers seem to carry one as well. If you're going for pure Necromancy, I suggest not using Atronachs at all, just raise Zombies.

My Necromancer personally uses, Necro side of Conjuration tree, Lightning side of Destruction (no chain lightning), Alchemy, and enchanting. That's it. Restoration, alteration, and the rest of Destruction I leave for my pure "good" archmage. I use Illusion exclusively for a Illusionist Vamp build, but after that magic is boring since every effect has been used over 3 builds. But that's just me.

Thanks for the replies everybody, the reason I was asking about a tangible weapon is because of the rare case I may have no magicka left. Also why should I use frost as opposed to a conjured sword, longsword, or dagger? In Oblivion I'm pretty sure Necromancer carried daggers or maces. But I am not positive on that, as well I was attacked by two Necromancers in the wild once, they both were equipped with steel daggers.

Edit: Basically I guess I am asking.. Is the destruction school really worth it? Or should I try more like an Arcane Warrior Necromancer? Maybe full Heavy Armor, Two-Handed (maybe 1h+shield dunno) Necromancy, Smithing, Enchanting and Illusion. It sounds like a very interesting playstyle.. I am just unsure how I am type player.. But Maybe my Arcane Warrior Necromancer sounds interesting.. Would it be viable though?

In case you have no magicka, you pull your back up plan, which should be the Ritual birthstone, which will raise all dead in the vicinity to fight for you. Also, if you take enchanting, you'll hardly ever run out of magicka, as long as you put some Destruction, or Conjuration enchants on your gear. (Not too much though, since 100% cost reduction just isn't fun IMO)

^^^^^^

And my own note: If you're going for an arcane warrior only use 1 1H weapon, it'd be a pain in the ass to keep switching from magic to sword, but it's your choice on how to play.

I agree 100% reduction cost although awesome you have the ability to do it... It just wouldn't be fun for me. The ritual stone... Interesting, so basically I should avoid tangible weapons? The frost (or lightning maybe idk?) destruction magic tree will be sufficient for defense?

Retire from magic in favor of the sword after taking a sweet roll to the knee ?

Poisons can be worth looking into as well since you can create fairly powerful poisons with enchantment gear.
Destruction is bad; avoid it like the plague. If you plan on playing into the high levels.

Yeah, the destruction magic is best friend when it comes to self defense, but since you're going for a Necromancer use your undead minions as your offense weapon (like I said in previous post) but use the ice tree since ice fatigues your enemies and slows them down.

The way i see it is necromancy completely blows befrore you get dead thrall... but the second you get dead thrall and twin soul you have become god. I just wish the temp zombie spells were a little more useful they can't even go to a new cell most of the time because there glitched and turn to dust.

You could always use summoned weapons, although for them to truly be effective you'll have to dabble in a weapon skill, like archery, or one hand. When I think Necro, I think no weapons, except maybe a Mace for last resort situations, or maybe a dagger. But that's like a last line of defense situation. I chose Lightning over the others since my pure mage uses frost and fire, and lightning seems 'powerful and evil' for lack of better words, but you can do whatever, hell, use all three elements if you want. I just like making a lot of builds so I limit myself since there's no more spell creation and magic gets boring after 2-3 builds.
