Help with maxing out settings

Post » Sun Jul 10, 2011 8:11 pm

Just got a new 27 inch i7 iMac 3.4ghz with 16 gig of ram with the 6790 radeon 2gb video card. Just installed crysis 2. Never really played on the pc always on my 360. So I am kind of new to configuring games on my computer. Any suggestions?

I've just read up on your computer and well that's quite a sum that you have spent.... over 2k is a tad bit much if you ever wanted to play Crysis at all, at max you could buy two windows PCs with the same specs for that amount of money, though from the specs it should run Crysis 2 fine.

I do photography part time is why I got it. Not for gaming! I know apple is a bit much but well worth it, and I didn't buy the ram from them either. They ask bait much for it! I know it will run on it just wondering what settings in detail. Like extreme or ultra!

I think with that set up, you'll be able to run everything on Ultra, if you enable DX11 and High Res Textures you'll notice a pretty big frame drop. At that point you could disable or tone down some other items in the advanced graphics options to compensate for the frame hit, just mess around with it!

The only problem is that, AFAIK, running Windows through Boot Camp using the drivers Apple provide for the system, you can't play any DirectX games as the drivers don't have DirectX support. I might be wrong about this though, it's been a while since I set up Windows on a Boot Camp partition.

i tryed this once with a non EA game. called GTA 4 from rockstar games. and it did not even run. there is a boot code in the bios for some games where it says cant be played on a modified pc. it has to do with the built in bios apple has. and your right apple does not support directx 11. the game needs to run under openGL or any other source other then directx.

Macs technically don't have a BIOS, their equivalent is the EFI.

anyway,
1. Mac
2. Gaming

Choose one. seriously, you're not going to see good framerates on that card or any card Apple offers. they're just not built for gaming, hardware or software wise.

Guys I don't want anything else except for what I got! I will never buy another pc again! I'm a Mac guy! That's just my preference! I do alot of photography/video editing. Gaming is just extra. The 21 inch iMac doesn't have the same graphics card as mine(just to correct you). This is my third mac. And my last two I have had for 5 and 7 years and not once have I had any problems or viruses. That's why I will spend a little extra on buying a mac.

My original post was on what should I max my game settings out as? Does anyone have a similar rig?and what are your settings at?

And on my Mac it is running direct X 11 perfectly fine with the new patches and up dates!

Well seeing as you do have a 6970 you can most likely run this game on max. I'm not so sure how well Windows on a Mac runs though

Seems to be running well, just curious about people's opinions about..... Should I max out the settings to ultra or and Lower the screen resolution to 1920x1080 or lower the settings and bump up the screen resolution? What are the pros and cons of both? Food for thought!

I prefer high resolution, makes everything sharper. But lower resolution (as long as the aspect ratio is the same) makes it appear a bit blurrier, but you can treat it as "fake" anti aliasing. It's just a matter of opinion
