Help with obtaining weapons

Post » Thu Feb 25, 2010 6:33 pm

Hello, I am a level ten and I have not bought a single gun so far because they are too expensive. I have searched every thing I kill, and have gotten 25 weapons so far. Please give advice where to get free weapons/cheap weapons

Sell your crap for 9 mill ammo. For the Hunting Rifle, you said you're level 10 right? Go Legion hunting. An Incinerator is in Primm

Like Fallout 3, you can combine damaged items into a single, better quality one. For example if you have a dozen near-busted 10mm handguns, put them all together to come up with one that's in good shape. Or just barter. Weapons being super valuable works both ways: they're expensive in the shop, but they're also really valuable to sell.

After decimating Goodsprings pluck the corpses for some nice starter weapons.

You must not explore much. Go to Primm for sure and make your way NW toward the Vegas Ruins. Also East to find lots of Legion Soldiers.

Invade the NCRCF. Then there's plenty of weapons to sell :)

Kill things, kill things, and scavenge scavenge scavenge!!
Everywhere you look will be stuff you can sell, even if only for a few caps, it will all add up to a good weapon eventually. And with a good weapon, you can kill bigger things and make more caps. And from there...

Sorry, I use ps3. And to everyone else, thanks for the ideas. I found out it's much easier to get caps through quests and I earned 3000 caps through selling and quests. I have bought tons of ammo, and about 5 weapon mods

Ahh, I remember the days when I thought 3000 caps made me rich. :)

Oddly enough, I had the same issues as you when I played Fallout3, Aadrian1234, I was broke as [censored] all the time and allways desperately low on ammo, wasnt fun at all. The joys of this game is that there's so much stuff you can simply grab and sell, and people are so eager for it!
Fighting random raiders is a good way to make money, because armour, early on, sells for a fair amount in goodsprings.

Might be an idea to increase your barter skills if you have money flow issues. Also later on there's a perk you can take which increases your chances of finding ammo, it's actually pretty good! I havent had to buy much in the way of normal ammo for some time.

First and foremost ... What kinds of weapons do you want to use, normal guns? Pistol or rifle? Energy weapons? Melee weapons? Unarmed?

I would suggest picking one, and boosting that stat to at least 60-70 or so for starters.

Guns: I would go with Ratslayer and a cowboy repeater for now. If your lockpicking is high, you can get Lucky, which is an awesome revolver.

Energy: you should get a plasma rifle on your first trip to the Fort. If your repair skill is high, you can get a very nice laser rifle. Or you can go for the Q-35 plasma rifle.

Melee: rebar clubs should be available relatively early. At least until you can get up into the mountains for Oh Baby.

Unarmed: bladed gauntlet will last a while, then maybe Love and Hate (though that one can be tough) then Pushy for life.

Also, very important. Save EVERYTHING, especially weapons. Find a nice home and return there often to store weapons (I prefer Novac, but that up to you)

Repairing things yourself is much much much cheaper than getting a vendor to do it.

Get your lockpicking high enough. There's a [hard] safe in Primm Steve n Bison Hotel that contains Lucky, a very fine .357 revolver. It's the best weapon you can get early game. Also Ratslayer, a fully modified unique varmint rifle with an insane critical multiplier, can be found in Broc Flower Cave. Those two will see you long ways. Hell, build your character right and they'll see you through to the endgame.

Completely agree with Snowy. All of my guns characters hang onto Ratslayer till the end. Super cheap ammo, easy to repair, and great for long range sniping (NV scope plus silencer). I actually took out all of Cottonwood Cove with Ratslayer once, without a single shot fired in return. Heck, most of them didn't seem to notice their buddies falling over right next to them

"Bob? Why did you fall down? Did you just fall asleep? Bob? Bob?? Wait, why isn't your head attached anymo-"

You'll need a second weapon by the end, if you plan on engaging in any real firefights. I usually go with Lucky, Ranger Sequoia or a Brush Gun. (and the cowboy perk to make em really pack a punch)

I don't buy guns, I just loot them. Buying weapons is pointless. All the best guns for you can be retrieved or scavenged. For example, by the time you will need a Trail Carbine, NCR Vet Rangers start showing up.
