Help me with my OCD

Post » Fri Apr 15, 2011 6:56 pm

I seem to have this problem where I love to test out new mods, but to actually sit down and play the game all the way threw...it is almost impossible for me. I have this feeling that my game could always be better, or I am waiting for a mod to be update, or for these few mods to be compatible with each other, etc. I am ready to just put that all behind me, except I still get the feeling I am missing out on an even more exciting game experience. What mods have you had a blast with, without any issues? Here is what I want to play with and have my game all set up to be played... just want to see if there are anymore goodies to add :)

Fallout Mod Manager
Fallout Script Extender (FOSE)
FWE - FO3 Wanderers Edition
Fallout Interoperability Program - FOIP
Fallout 3 Project Beauty HD
Marts Mutant Mod - RC 5
Weapon Mod Kits
EVE - Energy Visuals Enhanced
Tailor Maid
DCInteriors Project
Cube Experimental English
Dynamic Weather
Enhanced Weather - Rain and Snow v2 Hotfix (only so I can use the Dynamic Weather rain esp, and have the awesome night stars)
Fort Freeway
All Your Bananas
An Evening With Mister Manchester
A Note Easily Missed
In the Shadow of the Swamp
To sleep - perchance to dream
DarNified UI F3
Pipboy Readius
Amy Wong Companion (feel free to suggest more companion mods, keep in mind, I am a girl, so I am not looking for sixy... I want a guy, but I haven't found any that I can get to while running FWE so early on)

[edit] Added these from the suggested posts so far :)

The Librarian and the Rose of Athena
Wasteland Patrols
Merged Sunglasses Collection and Joes Junk Shop
Charon Improved
Harkness Follower
Ammo Toolkits
Outcast Tech Support FWE edition
A Trail of Crumbs

that's a pretty comprehensive list, and similar to what i'm using. Just go and play, you've got some big mechanics overhauls so the game will be quite different. Only things i'd suggest is the Fallout street lights and wasteland lights mods.

once you've got a list and it's working ok, i think it's best to ignore the other mods out there. just settle in and play your game. after you've gone through it, then go back and see what else you might like to try.

Much better companion control and it includes 3 new companions that I know of/have found so far.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1083740-relz-wasteland-patrols/- you haven't lived until you've been bombed by a Vertibird :)
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11188- a shop in Rivet City to buy sunglasses and junk from
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12221- gives him a personality and makes him a sneakier companion
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2693- make your own ammo, strip cars for parts, you can scatter the schematics for a treasure hunt if you want
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12175- speeds up the tedious process of turning in items to Casdin

@ orbitor - you are too right, I am trying to keep things fairly simple (most bang for the buck) so that I don't run into any sort of issues, but I know that there are sooo many gems out there that would make the game even better. I will just have to wait for most of the others I want to try out :(

@ GrayeWolf - I want to play Phalanx really bad, but I didn't think it was compatible with FWE just yet. I know there is work being done to make it so, so I was holding off. If you haven't run into any issues with FWE and Phalanx at the same time, then I will go ahead and give it a go :D Oh yeah... now I remember why I skipped it this time, I didn't want to turn everything into an esm in my load order :(

@ ghoulsrpeople2 - Oh! Those look like gems for sure! I forgot about the Ammo Toolkits, so thanks for reminding me of that one! Thank you so very much!

I am actually not using FWE myself. It's amusing that I pre-ordered Fallout 3, have all the DLC, and have not actually finished the main quest in all this time. Too busy trying different mods, fiddling with the GECK, and playing other awesome games. So right now I have put it all aside so I can play the game and the DLC all the way through. THEN I may try FWE heh. Just using minimal mods right now including MMM.

A Trail of Crumbs is fun, MoreMapMarkers, Vault Dwellers Survival Perks, Vault Dwellers Survival Cooking, Fallout Street Lights, Wasteland Street Lights and Megalight (Megaton lights overhaul). If you like eve you may want to try Winterized T51b DX, Outcast DX, tribal DX, Enclave DX and bos dx (armor textures). Last but not least NMC latest texture overhaul.

Miss Sparkle, I'd advise you to be cautious of NMC's new texture overhaul unless you have an awesome rig. I installed the reduced bumpmap and reduced texture version via a fomod but decided the ground textures were just too detailed for me so I removed it. Adding and removing those textures was the only thing I changed. My game went so haywire with stuttering and crashes I was forced to make my game Large Address Aware to make it stable again.

It's a gorgeous mod but my game hated it. :(

Amy Wong Companion (feel free to suggest more companion mods, keep in mind, I am a girl, so I am not looking for sixy... I want a guy, but I haven't found any that I can get to while running FWE so early on)

I've heard of that one...oh, maybe I'm thinking of someone else with a similar name. But, you've one or two I haven't heard of so will go have a look at :)
Well, IMO, it's easier to get to Rivet City than Underworld with FWE. I have a new character who caught minor radiation poisoning from swimming from the Point Lookout boat spot (boat was oddly missing) over to the shore of the broken bow. Using sprint she tore past the mutants near the memorial and up the ramp to Rivet City. Unfortunately after all that I found http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10379 wasn't even activated

I recommend DC Interiors. I like Seward Square the most, but I haven't updated in a while. I hear it's an esm now
For a long time there I didn't want FWE because it required other mods that I had no interest in. But, I have it, now and don't think I could go back to not having it. I've been using MMM since its time began (and that was Oblivion) so that goes quite nicely with FWE and most elements are incorporated, anyway.

If you're unsure of followers, modded or vanilla, you may want to check out http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12106, recently released.

The rest of your list sounds alright. I might have a look at a few of them myself :)

I also have to recommend DC Interiors, especially if you're the exploring type. That goes for both you and MystykStar (Seriously, Mystyk, you should update. There's gold in that thar' mod. :) )

@ GrayeWolf - I know the feeling lol. I spent so much time working with G.E.C.K., testing out mods in the game to see what they did and other such things, I want to leave that all behind and actually enjoy the game now lol.

@ robber804 - Thanks for those! I will take a look at them, you gave me a lot to read up on :D

@ ghoulsrpeople2 - Thank you for the warning. I don't think my machine can handle it. I am not too sad cause if I think it is the mod I looked at before, it would annoy me that all the refrigerators had the same look. I know they all look the same now, but it isn't as noticeable with the rust marks as with the texture pack. They did an awesome job with them though!

@ MystykStar - Your character sounds like one that I want on my team  I have seen your http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10379 mod and I have to say he is yummy with the mods you suggest to make him look that way. I was worried about finishing the quest in time to need him, but I would like him to hang out with me later on in the game anyways. I promise I will take good care of him ^_^

I already have the DC interiors in my list up there, did you see the update yet? We get collectible objects! I did test out the companion share and recruit :) I really like the way it works... but I had an issue with the item command firing an electricity sound over and over again. Once that is updated, along with the other 2 that it will work very well with, I am sure I will give it another go :D

@ EruditeDragon - Thank you, yes, I am definitely the exploring type :D I already have it installed :P

@ 50pieceSteve - Lol!! Good luck Mr. Abraham Lincoln!

*duh* That's right, I forgot you were already using CS&R. I even read your posts in the thread
Ghouls has told me many interesting and funny stories while using Harkness. I get my fair share of funny and crazy moments as well. I've rarely left him at home. I think FWE gives everyone a small health boost so that's helpful on top of the one I gave him as well. It's not over the top, I've actually had to raise it a bit in my own game. IMO, FWE is best played with others. You don't die as often :hehe:

Just my luck my monthly internet usage is over the limit, so I'm slowed to a crawl until start of next month. So, I can't update DC Interiors. I'm sure I can wait a few more days :)

I'm exactly the same! Even worse, after spending many, many hours making sure the sky looked right, I find myself not playing that much at all recently. Which is a bit silly, given I spent so much time on that blasted mod! lol !

Anyway, these have been in my Load Order for a long 'ole time:

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=834 / http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2125 + http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6661;

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=430390;
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7565;

:)

Edit: Oh, Bum! Just noticed you're wanting to use FWE - so that's pretty much my list out the window! Shouldn't have any problems with Rude Awakening and Treasure Maps though! Check 'em out. :)

I hear ya! I played on the 360 for a year and it was so simple. There were no decisions I would just sit down on my couch and play for hours at a time. It was lovely. Now that I play on the PC I agonize over the mods, which mods I should add and if they are the right ones and are there better ones I could be adding! I sometimes long for those simple days...although I don't really, and I'm thrilled to be getting the mods, but I do understand exactly what you mean.

lol I love you all! I am feeling giddy now with some of the mods I am reading about and adding and arranging in the load order *dances*

@ MystykStar - I am going to make it a top priority to do that quest so I can activate the mod and hire him (already installed and arranged in my load order, just not checked yet). I love entertaining situations! I remember I was testing out a portable mod that had items, and I was arranging some items on a shelf outside my megaton home and I hear "Are you having fun with that?" I turned around to see a megaton person walking up the ramp looking right at me lol.

I am very impressed with the work that has gone into DC interiors, and it just keeps getting better and better :D

@ Xepha - Oh trust me, I know exactly what you mea, I don't even want to look at my home mods that I have made anymore lol. I spend all that time making them exactly the way I want them, then spend more time editing them to make them the way people want them and by the time I am done, I don't want to step foot in them anymore :(

Ahh! The Rude awakening and the treasure maps have me hooked! I agree, we shouldn't be able to sleep outside in the open without being bothered lol And treasure hunting!! Gimmmeee Gimmeee Gimmeee! Thank you!

*shifty eyes* You can't have my bananas, I stole them fair and square :bolt:

@ llamaRCA - I have had Fallout 3 for just over a year now... and I still haven't scratched the surface...but I did save megaton about 20 times from that bomb :celebration: I blame G.E.C.K.! I really want to actually enjoy the game now and by golly gee, I will *stomps foot* lol

@Miss Sparkle: And I see you already have all of Puce Moose's quest mods as well. If you haven't played 'em, you're in for a treat. If you need help, you can either bug Puce Moose or myself... though I have a feeling Moose would be more helpful.

@Xephas: Not to jack Sparkle's thread, but how is the spawn rate on Rude Awakening? I've been thinking of snapping it up.

Phalanx is compatible with FWE. Tarrant is only working at the moment on improving the companion weapon selection with FWE weapons, but otherwise it works fine. Some people on the FWE team to use the FWE followers enhanced module, some use Phalanx, it's a matter of preference.

As for male companions, my favourite is http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2889. No big story, but he's cool to have around(if you use the Outcast alternate start you can even pick him up straight away, otherwise you first need become friendly with them through the tech quest). Just note this guy causes one single annoying bug(screws up one AI package), to fix it simply load the .esp in FO3Edit and under 'Package' delete 'DefaultWanderEditorLocation512' from the outcast_comp.esp

Also here are two cool scary quests:
http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9420
http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10361

And my favourite house mod:

I have successfully spent 2 days now not tinkering with my mods list, opening the GECK, or playing another game (mostly because I uninstalled all the others and gave the DVDs to a friend telling him not to give them back until I prove I have finished the main quest). After owning the game since release, I might actually finish the main quest. But I'm not rushing either. Taking my time and exploring :) Today makes the first time I have found Agatha, Paradise Falls, and Robco factory. Tomorrow Oasis and Old Olney. I usually play without companions unless i know for sure I will need help.

I use:
Mart's Mutant Mod
Mart's Mutant Mod - Increased increased Spawns.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - Zones Respawn.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - Tougher Traders.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - Hunting & Looting.esp
Mart's Mutant Mod - Natural Selection.esp
Phalanx
DC Interiors
Kikai's Equipment
Fellout
A few tweak mods including Buddha's containers respawn...with increased increased spawns this is a MUST.

Set at highest difficulty with my own tweak that cuts xp to half of what you get at lowest difficulty setting which means very little.

That's it :)

Like I say, I've not "played" properly for a bit, but as far as I can remember it was pretty good. You have to be outside for it to trigger and the longer you sleep, the more chance of something waking you up. Sometimes, there hasn't been anything there - which was a bit strange - although, perhaps, not entirely unrealistic - in a spooky kind of way. :ooo: Definitely worth checking out.

Wait you mean you modders don't actually play the game anymore? I play constantly! That is if you count play-testing.

I like Zoom Reworked by Schlangster, it makes using a scoped weapon so easy a Super Mutant can do it. There is also Antistars (Mr. WMK and DTO) lesser known Self Surgery Kit, it really helps to balance out the increased difficulty in a FWE game. For exploring purposes Bus World is fun, but as it was originally made for the German version of Fallout you might get a line or two in german while playing it. I'm also a fan of Combat Style Perks, it gives weapon use a much needed injection of that RPG feel.

MEGATON SNIPERS Miss Sparkle, megaton snipers...
Mans the currently inactive crows nests of Megaton and adds a few interesting touches to that town.
Altair , Detrot, Sonya, and Ripely (the snipers defending Megaton against raiders ) are friends I cannot do without

Do not masterupdate the mod (if you use that feature it gets ctd's), just recheck it afterwards and it runs fine

@ EruditeDragon - Puce Moose's mods looked way too good to pass up :D Thank you very much for the offer of help if I need it, I am really looking forward to playing them!

@ Kai Hohiro - As always, thank you so very much for the information that you provide me! I think amy wong is all I really need for now, I tested her out a little bit and I was very pleased with the way she is set up (just wish there was a male version of her lol) I am using the FWE followers enhanced module, so I should be good to go. I really do want to use Phalanx, but I don't want to turn all my files into esms (not yet anyways).

I do have Fort Freeway already installed and can't wait to explore it! Thank you very much for the suggestions!

@ GrayeWolf - lol!! the things we do to try to get to play our games lol! I had to make myself have a reason to play the game, and I will be writing a story of my character's adventures on my new website lol. Hey, what ever works :P I wish you the best of luck with finishing the game, I know I do lol

@ Xepha - I wanted you to know, I really love your http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10607 mod, and the rain just makes it that much better! I can't wait to see what else you come up with... cause I am just in awe over how well it looks, feels and everything about it! Amazing job, you really have a talent, that is for sure!

@ SteveDog - Thank you for your suggestions! I added a few :D I really liked what I read with the Self Surgery Kit. Oh we play the game, we test mods in them, make sure things play nice with our mod :P I find myself turning on god mod after testing and running threw the land for a good fight after though lol. It helps with those frustrating modding moments :P

@ Steamfax - Thank you for that suggestion! I tried it out and it is really cool, but I didn't like the extra entrance into my megaton home :( If my character was the stealthy type, it would be perfect though! I am still keeping it to use when I do have a stealthy character :D

Wow, I grabbed some very great mods suggested by everyone! I am going to have a blast! I feel complete! Thank you so much everyone for taking the time to help me out :hugs:

@Miss Sparkle: Did you grab the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12296 It just came out yesterday, and is another one of Puce Moose's creations. It is good, and reminded me of Portal. Sadly, much like Portal, you don't get any cake after finishing it.
