Help with a Pure Mage Build

Post » Mon May 19, 2014 4:01 am

Hello, I've been reading the forums for quite a while, but I've never started a topic.

I need some help with my last build, a pure mage (my firts magic build). For RP purposes, I use robes and clothes (No armor) and don't use any weapons (I have 2 staves for emergencies).

I'm currently on level 9 and I'm having problems with all my enemies (adept difficulty), I've read a couple of guides, and my general strategy is: Summon a Fire atronach, then stoneflesh and then destruction magic. The problem is that enemies tend to ignore my atronach and directly atttack me. I've tried illusion spells (frenzy and calm) but I still don't get it. So ...

What is your strategy against mages, warriors, undead, etc. ?

Thanks

1. Mages are tricky, they tend to spam wards which deflect magic. Use summons, Lightning magic, which drains magic, and your own wards.

2.For Warriors, Stoneflesh works, just don't expect to tank everything. Frost magic slows them down, and summons don't hurt.

3.The Undead are resistant to frost, other then that, use the same methods as above.

Keep in mind that Calm and Frenzy depend on level, so you'll need to get stronger versions as you level.

I would sneak first and then summon a atronach that way that makes sure it gets attack first

Warriors- forst base spell ice spike is nice when slowing a enemy down

undead- fire is their weakness so wipe it out

Mage- I use lighting cause light spells drains magic pool

I try to keep away as far as I can from my enemies

I have a save with a character that pretty much only uses conjuration and it works fine. But i always have a follower as well. Followers + Summons and you don't even need to fight.

  • Sneak
  • Conjuration
  • Illusion (little appreciated but this is a good school of magic for a pure mage)

Thanks, I see the strategies are similar. I guess I only have to get used to this new style. I have a follower too, Brelyna, she is great.

For undead I always get great use of the turn undead spells in the restoration school. This will at least make them run away and buy you enough time to plan your next attack.

I would also take a follower along with you, at least until you get stronger. If you take a warrior type follower like Mjoll, she'll be your front line fighter tank and take most of the damage while diverting the enemy's attention away from you. Combine that along with your summoned atronach and you should be good to go.
