Help with restore old savefile

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:27 pm

Hello!

I'm in a real need of help right now.

I've kept the entire bunch of files from an old savefile of morrowind. Now I've made a few unsuccessful attempts to restore it on a clean installation.

Attempt one:
Just add all files datafiles etc. as when you add a mod, but with all files and try start game = huge amount of error messages about files missing, press yes etc.

Attempt two:
I've installed the latest wrye mash, as I have understood I should use this program to fix it.
But I don't know how to use it, were to start. I can see all the mods in the modlist, and my savefiles in that list, but don't know what to do next.
I've tried using the "repair all" option on savefiles but only end up with "File master list is out of date. Please edit masters before attempting repair".
Tried to read me to an answer about using wrye mash but comes up with nothing.

Anyone got any Ideas?!

Would love to be able to play my old save again :)

Best regards

http://wryemusings.com/Wrye+Mash.html has all the info you need.

You need to update any esp/esm that is yellow.
- Highlight it
- click on its list of Masters (bottom right hand box)
- click Save

You need to redate any esp that is red.
- right click it, File->Redate (because mods can't have the same date as each other)

Other colours are not as common, but are explained in the document.

Then Sync your Save to your Load List.
- highlight your Save
- then right click the File header in the bottom right hand box
- select Sync to Load List
- press Save

Then Repair All on the save.

This doesn't guarantee that the Save will work perfect. You need to make sure you have all the same old mods installed, but even then you're still likely to get some errors.

Thanks Pluto!

When I change time on a red file, should I just change in seconds or minutes or days perhaps?
And before I change time I should use "Lock times" right?

I've got red colour on some of the tamreil rebuilt .esm, should I do anything special on such major mods, or just try change time?

This doesn't guarantee that the Save will work perfect. You need to make sure you have all the same old mods installed, but even then you're still likely to get some errors.

So I have to use exactly the same? I know some of them are unnecessary, and some of them will cause conflicts. Isn't "Tusar Island" and "Tamreil rebuilt map 1" In the way of each other?
I mean can't I use this program to remove such mods aswell?

Thanks

Ok, I've been experimenting a little now.

All mods are green in Wrye.

When I start morrowind I get many errors about missing objects, dialogues etc. "click yes".
I managed to reduce the number off errors by but in TR mods again (there seems to be some real problem with Tamriel Rebuilt), Now it's mostly Tusar and one more mod.
I chose not to start with tusar since I think it will interrupt with TR :P

But after alot of clicking I end up with this error:

"Expression Error Unable to find cell id "Yashazmus" in script TR_m1_GS_MQ_5_WrapUp."

Only possible to click OK, and then the loading shuts down.

Any suggestions?

Try opening your save with http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=other.detail&id=52 and deleting the Yashazmus cell. (Of course backup the saves first if you haven't :))

Will there not be a large gap in that cell?

I found someone with the same error on TR-forum:

After checking some more mods the problem disappeared. After more yes klicks the game started :D

Once in the game almost everything seems to work. There were a few flying plants, and some identical npc's on a few locations, but nothing major.
All the stuffs I've collected and placed inside buildings and stuff seems to be there (amazing!).

My biggest problem right now is the mod "Tusar Island". On the old savefile I had explored the island, perhaps I even joined some guild there...so now when I start the game without the mod. I still see it on the map.
I made a test to go to the island, but once you get close morrowind crashes.
Most of the yes boxes when loading is also from tusar.

Do I have to run the game with this mod, or could I delete the data on the save about tusar, somehow?

Adding/Removing Mods From a Save Game
? Go to Mods tab and check the mods that you want to use.
? Go to Saves tab and select the save game you want to play.
? Right click on the top of the Masters List, and select "Sync to Load List".
? Click "Save". The checkbox for the save game should turn purple.
? For more information, see Master List Updating.

I found this in the document, but isn't this the same as unmark the mod in "data files"?

Thanks for the help so far! :D

Hello again.

The save is soon completely free from errors.
Just tusar what I have seen so far, and a few startup boxes.

I thought I should do the steps in Wrye mash to remove mod from savefile
When I try to chose the mods I use, or more accurately the mod "TR_EoT.esm" there's a box with python something and it end with this lines:

File "mosh.pyo", line 3126, in load
File "mosh.pyo", line 3126, in load
File "mosh.pyo", line 3128, in load
File "mosh.pyo", line 2386, in load
File "mosh.pyo", line 3105, in getLoadOrder
File "mosh.pyo", line 3068, in circularMasters
File "mosh.pyo", line 3068, in circularMasters
File "mosh.pyo", line 3068, in circularMasters
File "mosh.pyo", line 3066, in circularMasters
RuntimeError: maximum recursion depth exceeded in cmp

What could be the problem?
