I want to build some traps for my settlement but haven't figured out how to make them effective. I wanted to have 2 fire traps so I connected a pressure plate to a generator and 2 fire traps to a pressure plate. The problem is it works for everyone, and since my provisioners/traders and me walk there regulary (sanctuary hill bridge) I'll roast everyone getting into my city, which isn't really the plan. There must be a way to make this work? I mean you usually want to place traps at the entrance, and it's not only enemies going through the entrance.
I guess you can connect it to the switch pylon, but then you'd have to go pull the switch whenever there's an attack... Now, I haven't actually had an attack yet so I don't know how much warning you get and if you have time to go push the switch. It still seems this would get messy if my settlers charged forward and got roasted in the attempt. Pressure plates being activated for everyone is realistic but incredibly annoying . I haven't got the science perk so haven't tried the laser trip thing, but I guess it's the same for that. So anyone had a chance to play around with these traps who can give me some feedback?
One extra question: How does the alarm work? does it just have to be connected to a generator or does it need the enemies to walk on a pressure plate aswel?
