Helping Improve Skyrim

Post » Sun Jan 23, 2011 5:31 pm

So what features do you think Skyrim needs in order to bring the highlights of Morrowind back to the table? Oblivion lacked much of the immersion and atmosphere of Morrowind and I for one would like to see some of those things re-introduced. This is not an Oblivion bashing thread, this is a feature comparison thread trying to bring the best of both worlds. Skyrim will already have the technical improvements of Oblivion refined and redone to produce a much better game. But, nostalgia glasses aside, lets reach into the past and try to bring our favorite parts of Morrowind into Skyrim.

IMO it was the ambient noises that started when you first got off the boat and into the real world, it really led to in depth immersion. Oblivion has some noises to be sure, but they just lacked that same air of aliveness.

The second thing that I missed terribly was the fog. I realize that fog was just a convenient loading barrier, but it really gave a sense of discovery, you never knew what might lie ahead of the fog.

The final thing I missed was the dust storms. Seeing NPCs covering their faces to avoid the weather while stumbling through limited visibility just seemed really cool.

-Disclaimer- The mods have seen fit to throw my previous thread into the Morrowind forums because it wasn't "relevant enough", this is a similar thread looking for feedback from the community on their favorite features in Morrowind that didn't make the cut into Oblivion. The goal of this thread is to help improve SKYRIM. This is not a Morrowind thread, please mods, actually read through a thread before you give it the movehammer.http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1178107-favorite-part-of-morrowind-that-oblivion-lacked/

The weather effects didn't seem as severe in Oblivion IMO. Also, did any of the NPCs cover their faces while walking around in the weather? It's been awhile since I've played Oblivion but I don't think they did. I was very impressed with the immersive dust storms in Morrowind.

Morrowind's werewolves were tame and lame. If they try werewolves again, make them interesting.

Edit: How about making them have to kill people every full moon? There's two moons as well, let's get out there and hunt. That was cool in Daggerfall.

That sounds really interesting...people hunkering down into their houses every full moon, hiding their wives and kids because there's werewolves tearing up the night....

The sky. Thats it. The night sky in morrowind was so incredibly beautiful, i could stare for 5 whole minutes, which is hours in morrowind. And in oblivion, it was just a black fill with white dots and a moon. that REALLY dissapointed.

Less Morrowind focused topics would probably help Skyrim by it becoming more like Skyrim and less like Morrowind.

Oblivion > Morrowind for my rping experience so...I cant really say anything. Skyrim will probably be better than both those games in my opinion. Here's hoping.

I voted other as I think Skyrim should be its own game, and not worry about things that came before in the other games. Oblivion was Oblivion, Morrowind was Morrowind, and Skyrim should be Skyrim.

Hmm not to shure how u could incoperate a dust storm into skyrim but maybe, they coudl have soe heavy snow where u can barely see, also maybe some heavy wind storms for forest areas, I wold love to see some werewolves again. Also I don't want skyrim to feel like its a cookie cutter, because morrowind ahd that unique feel, defineatly briing the shivirnig iles sort of aproach where every seem to be more original and not much of the same. Also to maybe add an expansion that can take you somewhere that is like shiviring iles because I love exploring areas like that cause it brought back that memories of morrowind and when i always go to SI I feel amazed.

Sorry for the spelling errors.

@ TWD26 you know if you slow down and go back over your typing you might not make those errors, because some of them might be legit errors but w=how is just laziness on your part. unless you're writing this under gunpoint or you have to type this before a bomb goes off the 10 seconds it would take to go back and fix these really shouldnt be that much of a hassle.

as for the thread i say levitation all the way :)

You should have set the poll up so you could check off multiple options.

Or is it set up this way so we have to choose which one to have implemented if Beth said the were only gonna implement one of these features?

Meh whatever the reason or mistakes made about the poll... I voted for Unique Architecture Telvanni FTW.
