[relz] Hemingwey's Capes Version 2

Post » Mon Jan 17, 2011 2:53 am

Have you seen the WIP thread for animated capes as of yet, Hemingway?

I just read it at your suggestion.

Using Paleriders hats for the screenshots....I see.

Always room for more capes, I'd say, of course. :P

Regards,

Hem

P.S. My skills are currently limited to using the CS and dreaming up/creating textures. I have tried out every cape mesh/design I manage get my hands on. For me, the Capes and Cloaks mesh is still the best overall...realism of appearance and shape, minimal clipping, flexibility of modding use, etc. Sadly, it is a little stiff when you jump or run. If I ever get around to learning how to make my own meshes, rigging, etc. I might try my hand at making a more animated or flexible cape. For numerous gamers, capes are a much desired game element developers have struggled with over the years....but none (of which I am aware) have really managed to introduce an acceptable cape design. Never say never.....look what a couple of idie developers did for mounted combat in Mount & Blade. :foodndrink:

It is looking like version 3.0 will have approaching 200 different capes...counting all color variations.

I have a hard time keeping track of 'em all, and I am the one creating the mod.

So, I threw together a little display grid featuring pictures of all the necromancer and conjurer capes inlcuded in Hemingwey's Capes 3.0, with name labels under each style and color variation. The draft display grid can be viewed http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/30101-1-1283202831.jpg.

I am thinking of including a full set of display grids featuring all of the capes in a separate download when version 3.0 is released. Wondering if this would be worthwhile for users...and whether the grid I made is sufficiently attracive, legible, proper resolution, correct dimensions for those without widescreen monitors, etc.

Enjoy.

Hem

Yeah...I decided to make 'em. The effort is minimal, really. :toughninja:

The second grid -- http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/30101-1-1283262492.jpg - features 6 old friends, and 4 new variations... heraldic unicorns and rampant antelopes (or at least the heraldry *experts* agree that "beaked" creature is supposed to be an antelope  ).

Enjoy!

Glad you like 'em.

There are elven armor mantled capes in version 2.0 (already released)....http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/30101-1-1267342709.jpg

There also a bunch of steel and iron mantled capes (some released, some not)....(though the textures are not an exact match because of the *funkiness* of bare metal textures combined with a mesh that has properties set for cloth -- interesting textures nonetheless IMHO)...pictured http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/30101-1-1266770121.jpg and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/30101-2-1267019293.jpg and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/30101-1-1267019292.jpg Moreover, there are steel mantled capes matching the Lord's Mail textures from the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7825 (by Painkiller) pictured http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/30101-2-1266764543.jpg. There are also two capes mantled to match orcish armor. Oh...and....Blades capes with matching armored mantles...pictured http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/30101-1-1266763114.jpg

So that leaves ebony, dwarven, glass and mithril....and golden saint....maybe a few others (the existing black steel mantled capes probably look more like black glass or obsidian  ). Dwarven is problematic texture/mesh-wise, but you never know. I am very interested in doing some ebony....and I have some initial work in on Golden Saint and Mithril... . I doubt any of those will be included in version 3.0 because I already am scaling back my ambitions for version 3.0 so that there can be a release at some point. :whistling:

I was going for something that would be "immersive" for a medieval game world. :D The font I used is called "Bard." If you have some other suggestions...let me know.

On the prospective dress mod/recolors...see my post of the Mod Detectives Thread. B)

I can marry the textures to the mesh easy enough with nif scope or texture replacer. I forget where I got the good texture from when I did a little work with it. :hehe:

Thanks. :foodndrink:

I will add the recolored clothes to my "new and experiemental items esp / chest" in Hawkhaven first chance I get and see what they look like in game.

The pink and green ones remind me of "preppies" in pink and green Izod clothing in the late 70s and early 80s ....uh....when I was a teenager.

Yes. In fact, several of them look very promising...now...I am gonna bring this thread back on topic a lttle bit :hehe: ....

Preview screenshot entitled http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/30101-1-1283476969.jpg.

I am thinking the red pentagram cape on the right likely drops off Bloodmoon Mages...the other two from vampires....(you'll note the template for the pentagram capes is the same as used for several of the Dremora mage capes :ninja: ).

Enjoy!

Regards,

Hem

Edit: Pentagrams must be lore friendly....there is one on the handle of the Mace of Molag Bal. Edit, edit: ...er....I mean Skull of Corruption.

There have been a number of requests for a "Thieves' Guild Cape."

I pondered over the concenpt for a long time.

I even worked up a few designs...attempting to make a grey fox or fox head appear shadow-woven into the fabric....none of which really worked.

The main issue, for me at least, is that the Thieves' Guild isn't a public guild, organized out in the open, like the Mages' Guild or the Fighters' Guild, or even the Blackwood Company. So the idea of an official cape being sported around Cyrodiil by members of the Thieves' Guild offended my roleplaying sensibilities. The guild also has no recognizatble, official symbol so far as I can determine. "I mean, officially, the Thieves Guild doesn't exist." :hehe:

So...here is what I decided to do, I think...

I designed a rather slick-looking dark grey soft wool cape with embossed leather trim and ...a little secret. Inside, along the lower lining, a small grey fox head is sewn into or imprinted on the fabric. Obviously, this cape would only be worn by wealthier members of the guild's upper eschelon -- who wish to keep their affiliation secret, but can subtly make themselves known to other guild members by flashing the inside hem of their cape.

The preview screenshot can be viewed http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/30101-1-1283523868.jpg

Regards,

Hem

P.S. There is also a cape or mantle, most likely worn only by guild enforcers....and only when they wish to make themselves known...http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/30101-1-1280982692.jpg

* Trademark endorses this mod *

Finally! It always annoys me that whenever I've got a new outfir for my character I can't find a matching cape. It appears that, especially when v3.0 comes, this problem will pretty much be eradicated!

If this mod can integrate animated capes, that would be incredible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwwKnaERNkU, you can see cape animations, they look very well done.

What I think you folks are asking is for me to create some textures for the animated cape mesh.

I believe the animated cape mesh (and specialized skeleton) orginates from http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16943 -- a fine piece of modding work and offered as a modder's resource.

However, the animated cape mesh design appears to be a bit stylized (and somewhat limited) for my tastes -- particularly if hundreds of NPCs were running around clad in such capes. In my current estimation the effect of the same would be immersion killing.

Having said as much, the animated cape mesh provides some nice eye-candy for videos!

Hemingwey's Capes is far more than an item mod. It aims to clad hundreds of NPCs and adversaries in capes befitting thier factions, personality, social station, jobs, etc. I also seek to provide cape texture designs to augment as many player roleplaying concepts as I can manage.

This is not to say I won't ever create some textures for, or a separate mod (or an addon for Hemingwey's Capes) that employs, the animated cape mesh, etc. I might in the future.

As mentioned by someone above, there is a recent mod that does provide new textures for the animated cape mesh -- ya'll should probably check it out.

Hem
