A ghostly deer isnt all that threatning, but to be fair... This time we werent proving ourselves against his minions, we were doing him a favor and killing a traitor.

Hircine takes the form of both the hunter and the hunted. He revels in both. We never encounter him in his true form, and merely different aspects of the Prince. The Stag was most likely only there so he could manifest himself on Nirn should someone kill it.

I get it, I wanted more than a stag with a ghostly appearance. His Daggerfall and Bloodmoon form (A man with a Deer's skull) would have looked amazing.

Ohhh Imagine if it was the size of a giant with that http://images.uesp.net/f/f3/BM-creature-Hircine%27s_Aspect_Of_Guile.jpg

I just was blah.. I expected something threatening.

Indeed. And I've seen the texture of the face beneath. He is quite handsome.. -s- But yes.. I feared him.. There..

Wasn't that actually a picture of one of the developers (Gary Noonan, I think)?

My explanation for the decline in his ability to manifest on Nirn at full strength: the vigilants.
We know a Daedric princes strength is linked to their sphere. Hircines sphere is linked to lycanthropes. I'm willing to bet the vigil has caused a significant drop in the lycanthropic population over the last 200 years and that has probably resulted in hircine having to use a weaker avatar on nirn

I'm not sure the Vigilants are adequate enough to take on werebeasts. They got their asses handed to them on a platter when faced against vampires. I can't imagine they'd fare much better against hulking monsters. Then again, there might be more elite groups within the Vigilants, and they could be killing the werebeasts off outside of their beast forms.

Werewolves are very rare though. I doubt the Vigilants could put much of a dent into them. I think Hircine's representation is simply design choice.

Remember the original vigilants took on the remnants of Dagons army and won. I'd say the vigilants have recently gotten lazy, but earlier in the era were a force to be reconed with

I'm not doubting what you've said, but could you tell me where that's revealed? I'd like to read about it. Is it related to the keepers of the shards of Mehrunes' Razor?
