Here, boy!

Ages ago, I came across Dogmeat and sent him off to find some ammo. I haven't seen him since and I've been here there and everywhere on the map (no, not quite). Will he ever show up? Anyone know where he's gone?

Had this happen before and ended up running into him again when I fast traveled back to the same spot I told him to search for something. I also had him kill himself when I asked to find something else and he jumped into a lake of radiation. Good thing I had the puppies perk at that point. I'm beginning to think the search for X behavior is bugged if the searched for item is not in the immediate area. By immediate, I mean within 5 seconds walk. I just stopped using it.

Have you tried to find him at the entrance to Vault 101? He usually goes there when the game glitches for one reason or another.

Getting him killed is pretty darn easy: even though he has more HP than you do, if he's up against an adversary with a disatnce attack, he gets reduced to his name. RL-3 is almost as bad, since he can't shoot worth crap. I saw a Robobrain fry him. As followers go, I like Fawkes, Jericho, and Charon: they hit what they shoot at, even at a disatnce.

Odd. About the only time I lost Dogmeat was twice - one was when he was trailing behind me and took on something too nasty for him; I think it was a Mr. Gutsy. All I know is one was in the area then I got the notice "Dogmeat has died." Idiot dog. I reloaded. The second time he tried to take on three Super Mutants with miniguns who got him in a crossfire. RIP Dogmeat. Really aggravating since I could've saved him and taken out the mutants if the fool dog had just waited for me to get there. :banghead:

Thanks for your answers. I hadn't thought of going to Vault 101. I've been nervous to do that because I figure they're on the lookout for me (aren't they?) and had no good reason to do so. Haven't had a message that Dogmeat's died so I guess he's still okay.

If you start certain DLC sidequests, your follower will go to his/her/its default location. For Dogmeat, that's V101. If you're in a dangerous area, you can send Dogmeat to wait for you there, he can be reacquired free and regardless of karma.

Fawkes kills the thrill of combat, but Jericho makes you wanna get into a fight.

I went to V101 but he wasn't there -- not on the outside, anyway. And I couldn't figure out how to open the door.

It is not necessary to go inside (actually, it is not possible to do it, except when you have the quest "Trouble on The Homefront" active on your quest list). Dogmeat should be waiting for you outside, near the Scenic Overlook sign.

Do you fast-travel? If you don't, then try to fast travel somewhere and see if Dogmeat appears next to you when the game loads the new location.

Yes, over and over again, and he's never appeared. Must be dead. RIP. I'll fast travel to V101 once more.

When you fast travel to V101, look behind you to the right and he should be right there.

Just be patient.I sent him to look for something and he ran off and I didn't see him for 6 months in game time.I had given up on him.If he doesn't find you keep checking 101.He is on the little lookout point usually.

Weirdly enough, the first time I saw him playing Fallout was in Vault 87. He just... showed up. It was weird.

Dogmeat has never died on me. The first time I met him he killed three or four raiders all by himself. Quite impressive! X3 Then he ran over to me and I made him mine forever! Jericho has died numerous times and I always reloaded, I tried giving him better weapons to defend himself against those dumb mirelurks so I gave him a flamer thinking he would know what to do with it but he didn't, he just let the mirelurk hunters kill him while he tried to sound badass. -_-

This is why I never play with any companion. They're always rushing off to take on something, when quite often using a little subtlety would be a much better approach. They have absolutely no sense of tactics.

I agree. I kept dogmeat but I left him in my house as a pet. It was nice to go back every time I needed to place stuff in the flat and he'd be there to greet me. =P

I'm level 27, have gone through all of the DLC's and I've done alot on this char, and I got Dogmeat when I was level 4-5, and he's never died on me...Ive lost him a few times, but he always ends up popping up at weird places. I advise going on with life as usual, and eventually he'll pop up
