Here for work?

On the new videos, the guy moving the lumber says, "Here for work? Grab an ax, and cut all the wood you can hold."

Maybe this means we can cut trees down? Discuss.

it's been confirmed you can work at lumber mills.

Also there's no destructible environment's so i doubt you can just chop down random trees.

Of course, but it was never confirmed weather or not we could cut down trees.

Skyrim jobs... Why does that make me feel ...dirty?

I like that there are trades, evidently, one can get into. Maybe my mage won't have to moonlight as a thief after all.

They said they don't have destructible environments, I don't think he literally meant "go chop down some trees"

Nope (had to look that up), but I probably shouldn't elaborate.

Well, it does confirm that you can do it for money. It's an actual job rather than just something random to do for RP reasons.

Actually, in the second video, in the part where Todd goes into his inventory to examine the golden claw, there is "firewood" in the inventory. So, it kind of makes me wonder.

Might be like scrap metal in Fallout 3 where you can use the item or turn it in for cash for a side quest?

Well, I got it... Yes you should feel dirty.

Anyways, it would be cool to be able to take down trees, but my guess is there is just some animation of chopping and you gain some lumber when looking at a tree and hitting the activation button.

Jobs yes. Chopping down trees, no. When he say's grab an axe and chop all the wood you can hold, i'm sure it's there for the atmosphere and role playing rather than being an actual feature.

That is not what he said. He says: "Here for work? Get an ax. Bring me all the wood you can chop."

I see this playing out a few different ways:

1.) There will be a designated area you find with the quest arrow where you can "chop wood". This could be as simple as striking a specially designed tree which has a pre determined cut off area at the base and then after it takes so much damage it falls over and then you can either put it in your inventory, or use the Z button to drag it along like you can drag bodies in fallout new vegas. It's much better than Oblivion, once you press Z on a dead body it's being carried and you don't have to HOLD it down. So you drag stuff around and then press Z again and it drops. I can see this being the most realistic way to transport chopped wood.

2.) There is a specific pile of "logs" which you chop and wood is added to your inventory with each strike, until you can't carry any more. Then you sell him the wood you chopped.

3.) The dead logs that you find laying about in the environment at various places, perhaps you hit them with an axe and it breaks down into smaller pieces which you can put in your inventory and sell to him. This would limit how much you can make. Or maybe he just said grab an ax for immersion, but all you really do is simply find wood in old logs like harvesting any plant.

There are other ways it could be done obviously, but who knows maybe any tree can be chopped down. They are just nifs, all they would need is a simple script. It's not like the player would make time to cut down every tree, lol. I think it would be pretty cool dragging trees around with the Z key rather than have wood in your inventory, so hopefully its something like method 1.

My guess is it works like stalthrim in morrowind. you find a "choppable tree" and you activate it chopped wood appears in your inventory.

You probably chop logs that are stacked in a pile, not actual trees.

After watching the video again if you watch video 1 at 5:31 you can see a pile of logs behind the lumber mill area. So I'm sure the player will just have to go to those logs and do something. Probably somehow harvest wood from them and take it to the mill guy. It would be cool if we could train up our one or two handed by chopping on the log pile to harvest chunks of lumber from the logs :)

I interpret this action as being the following.

You have axe.
Press action button on tree to get wood.
You now have wood.

Pretty much exactly like alchemy ingredients.

Does the tree disappear? Doubtful. Just like alchemy ingredients never disappeared.

Chop 100 wood, get a Logger achievement.

If No Destructible Environments, are Flames just a Pretty Texture on Plants and if a Dragon crash into a dence Forest, will he just slide Above the trees until it hits the ground.
