Hermaeus Mora wants me to kill somebody who's invisible?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:10 am

I summoned Hermaeus Mora, and by the looks of it, he wants me to kill somebody who is invisible. He wants me to kill somebody who lives in a palace. So I go to the palace, explore the whole thing, and don't find the person. Every NPC is directing me to the palace. I've been searching the palace for an hour, and no luck. I even tried reloading and summoning him again, then going to the different palace, and spent another hour searching there. With no luck. Where is this person? Am I not looking hard enough, or is he in a different place? I cannot find the NPC at all.

Thanks.

Is it one of the larger palaces (Daggerfall, Wayrest, Sentinel)? Are you running under XP or DOSBox?

It's in Grimfort. I think I'm running under XP (I have a shortcut to the DOS program on my desktop), although I haven't encountered any of the usual swimming or climbing problems or anything.

Invisible quest items/NPCs/monsters are said to be a high-speed processor problem, I think. I've never encountered it myself, but I've heard of it. If your processor can handle it, try using DosBox instead. If it can't, try a slowdown program. Otherwise, try http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Running_under_Windows. Bad news, though, you'll apparently have to revert to a save from before taking on the quest to fix it (or just forget about the quest).

Thank you, I'm going to run it under DOSbox and see what happens.

JFTR, this is how it works in my experience. I prefer to run under native XP and switch to DOSBox when necessary.

You can run it under XP right up until you talk to the person from whom you initiate the quest dialogue. Then save and quit. Run DOSBox and restore. Continue to run DOSBox until you enter the dungeon where the quest object resides. As soon as you're in (and cast Mark, of course :)), save and quit. Then you can run it under XP. The quest object will be there no problem.
