Hermaeus Mora: Where Does He Stand In All This?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 3:48 am

I'll put my money on the rather large gamble that our Dragonborn friend here knew Alduin would return one day, so he cut a deal with HM. In exchange for becoming a priest/guardian/champion of HM and his realm, this dragonborn would get both a longer life and the knowledge needed to kill Alduin for good the next time he came around. The ability to kill someone like Alduin would count as forbidden knowledge.

I'm also guessing that knowledge has something to do with becoming a god, and shares a lot in common with what happened to Tiber Septim. I really think this guy will be our King Wulfharth.

yeah, but we sorta already handled the whole Alduin issue.

Most of the time there doesn't really seem to be a reason nor rhyme as to who ends up with Akatosh's gift or for what purpose.

Having said that, Herma-Mora is probably the only Daedra that could pull something like that off, but I think Occam's razor applies here.

And the way I see it, if HM didn't grant the first Dragonborn the power, then it'll be from Akatosh of course.

Not really. All we did was give him a solid punch to the gut. He's still very much alive, ask Paarthurnax or Arngeir about Alduin after you defeat him. It's rather simple. If you get to the point in dialogue with Mr Dragonborn before you fight Alduin, he expresses the need to kill you so he can kill Alduin. If you get to that point after the fight with Alduin, Mr Dragonborn tells you that you cannot kill Alduin though mortal means and then tries to kill you so he can finish the job you started.

I'm more inclined to think that this other Dragonborn was a dragonborn before ever meeting HM. My guess is he was powerful and sought more power, or immortality, or something else from HM. But I doubt HM is able or has the knowledge to impart dragon souls.

The ability to destroy Alduin, if such a possibility is even in existence, would certainly be forbidden knowledge. If I recall correctly, he is part of the circular reality of destruction and rebirth. Destroying him would fundamentally change reality. Of course, as far as we know Alduin has never been defeated like this, his soul absorbed back up into Akatosh's essence (he is an aspect of Akatosh), so honestly haven't the foggiest idea what is going to happen to him. It is pressumed things will eventually go as they have before. But it could be he went there to learn how to absorb Alduin's soul as it would grant him immense power.

Yeah, that'd be some pretty forbidden knowledge for him to have

Maybe HM gave the Old Dragonborn the knowledge derrived from wall scratchings of dragons on how to use the Souls of Dragons to prolong life?
Or maybe the Old Dragonborn became a Dragon Priest to communicate with the Dragons to learn their secrets?
Just a couple of wild suggestions.

I think he'll be to the (air quotes) "First Dragonborn" what Meridia was to Umaril - a means to survive through the ages and perhaps a source of power.

what about the greybeards they live to serve the dragonborn but witch on ? Lol

Well of course they do but i think they will serve you but respect the other and wont clash with them at all, but what about the blades would they show back up in some way because they serve the dragonborn and depwnding on what you did do they betray you for befrinding dragons instead of slaying them. Esbern and delphine need to show back up in this.
