Post » Tue Jan 18, 2011 3:45 pm

EDIT: wrong title, sorry, my fault, i used google traduction, for ONE word i did not know how to spell well, and i copied what was in the traduction box... i writed half french in the box, and accidently, writed the remaining in english, and copied the wrong thing... the text to be traducted, not the traducted one...

Here is the good title: I hesitate whether or not I install OBSE ... Wich good mod use it?

There is only one mod that i find good that use OBSE... map marker overhaul... i dont want to install a program just for one mod... there is any other good mod that use it?

Post all the mod you think is good here... for 4-5 mod i like that use obse... maybe i will install it, but not just for ONE...

Two Mod that comes into mind that I find it vital for any players to use OBSE is http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22410 (make sure you exit the game without waiting 15 minute and a CTD happen) and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22282 (make you crash alot less time ingame).

That say, I would just recommend installing OBSE anyways just so one does not have to worry if the mods one want to install requires OBSE or not.

Nearly every mod I've written... see the first link in my signature!

And many other gameplay mods, by other authors. OBSE allows many changes to the rules of the game, not just what's in it.

You install OBSE as soon as you come across a mod you like that uses it. No reason to install it otherwise, but no reason to avoid it, either - it's rather trivial to install (just extract the archive to the Oblivion\ folder (not Oblivion\Data\ like other mods), and then update your shortcut to point to obse_loader.exe instead of OblivionLauncher.exe. It's really quite simple, and it's a small, quick download. OBSE is very safe; you really needn't concern yourself worrying about it. Bugs have occasionally occurred, but they are uniformly of the "Hey, this doesn't work right" type that will never find their way into a released mod (at least, assuming that the author did any testing whatsoever), so it's really not a problem.

Uh... in my opinion, there are lots of good mods that use OBSE. In fact, most of the mods I like use it. But how on earth are we supposed to tell you what mods you like?

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18305: It is THE weather mod!

But in general; OBSE doesn't do anything, has no effect whatsoever, if installed but not used by any mods. So why not install it anyway? That way you don't have to worry about a mod requiring it or not.

nGCD
Supreme Magicka
Combat Archery
Deadly Reflex
Unlimited Violence
All Natural
Enhanced Grabbing
Persuasion Overhaul
Map Marker

but if you need 1 sole reason; the best quest mod often requires you to have
Elys Silent Voices

unless of course, you only want fully voiced mod.

I wouldn't quite say that! There are still a whole lot of great mods that don't use OBSE. If the mod can get it done without OBSE, then why should the author make the mod dependent on it?

Anyways, the only mods in my list that come to mind immediately are:

Midas Magic
Fast Exit
AWLS (Animated Windows Lighting System) - the esp version uses OBSE

Just for these 3 was well worth the install.

I was afraid of OBSE for a while, but you just install it (you just copy the files to Oblivion directory), it creates a separate Oblivion launcher, and you just use that to launch Oblivion. It works with OBMM installed to. It's really not that big a deal, and with Fast Exit, I really enjoy not having to wait ten minutes for my computer to shut Oblivion down... ;)

It's not a program. It's a mod, like - but also, yes, rather unlike - most others. It doesn't run independently of Oblivion, or even concurrently. It becomes a part of the Oblivion program. Provided you use [typically a shortcut to] obse_loader.exe instead of the launcher or any other executable, that is. But anyway, you don't have to "install" anything. Dump it in your Oblivion directory, possibly make a shortcut to obse_loader.exe (a good idea, I think) - and done! That simple.

What it comes to down to, IMO, is that - chances are - there will come a time, even if you choose not to use it now, that you've just downloaded some fantastic-sounding mod, you read the readme (or indeed, perhaps the description at the download page), and discover...

Yep, it needs OBSE.

Really is - probably - a matter of when, not if.

I'd like to put the spotlight on those small OBSE mods that makes navigating the menus etc. much more smoother. Mods like:

P1DmenuEscape.esp
Toggleable Quantity Prompt.esp [Version 3.1.1]
ATakesAll.esp
Teleport Everywhere.esp

But I use loads of other OBSE mods I wouldn't want to do without as well - plus I've never had any issues whatsoever with OBSE so it's like a win-win situation. That said, I was a bit reluctant once upon a time, mainly by having had issues with similar early versions of extenders for Morrowind. But I've never had any issues with OBSE as said, so the reluctance proved to be misplaced.

Mods I currently use that require OBSE:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25078

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15619

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31855

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9544

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12367

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31424

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32651

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23069

Without some of the mods mentioned above I wouldn't even want to play the game - that means without OBSE the game would be no fun for me.

I have to admit that at first (a few years ago) I was a bit scared of OBSE as well. But that was a bit stupid when I think about it now. Like lots of other people I have played with OBSE for a long time and didn't have any issues, performance drops or crashes that were directly related to OBSE.

But of course what Dragoon Wraith said is true - if there is no OBSE mod that you want to use then there is no point in installing OBSE.

EDIT: Forgot the OBSE plugins I use

Most all the mods I listed in that other thread use OBSE. In my experience, it is indispensable. Almost all the mods I want to run use it.

Feirsome and Supreme Magicka come to mind (don't use both though) as well as all the others listed. There are thousands in reality. If you don't download OBSE now you will be seriously limiting your choice of good mods. I would definately get OBSE, it's free, safe and doesn't permenatly change anything about your game.

I have a few mods that use it, but Deadly Reflex is the one that sticks in my mind. It seems like all the extra things it lets me to do kill NPCs would make the game unfair, but it also causes them to do those things to me! It's hilarious when some marauder dodges my arrows, knocks me over and then impales me while I'm down.
