Hey? Where's all the love at?

Post » Wed Jul 28, 2010 2:32 pm

Right... so here's my issue:

This community is just CHOMPING at the bit for new information, and in doing so... things are getting a little crazy. People are frantically jumping to one mindless conclusion after another, arguing insipidly, and all around just plain going for one another's throats like wild dogs! So I ask you this... where has all the love gone?

Have these forums been so long flooded with the fans of Fallout from over at NMA (my own resentful self included) that we've all gotten bitter too?

This is The Elder Scrolls! Even when the game is BAD, we love it... and we don't hesitate to show that love by faithfully modding the hell out of it while grumbling about "Why couldn't the dev's do this in the first place?"

Look at this game!

LOOK at it!

It has crafting... it has gorgeous graphics! It has freaking DRAGONS! When you bash in the head of a lich... it SHOWS. We can dual wield. We get to hang out with the Nords!

No matter -anything- that is absent, or done wrong, or missing... there isn't a doubt in my mind that I am going to -LOVE- this game, from day one... and sink at -least- as many hours into it as I did into Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion.

So where is the love? Where is the excitement I've come to expect?

Are you really all so cold and embittered by a few missing skills and a few missteps along the way that you can't be excited anymore about what is arguably one of the greatest Western RPG series' ever designed? Forget about the damn spears and crossbows! Forget about mysticism... and levitate... and mark and recall. Forget about the strange changing voices of NPC's in Oblivion which all made us cringe, and laugh, at the same time.

This is the [censored] ELDER SCROLLS... and I want to see some positivity, damn it all!

Now. This thread isn't a rant. It may sound like it at first... but the real questions haven't been asked.

Now, I know these things have been asked before... but this thread isn't a place for you to bicker, or argue, or debate. If this turns into any of those things... I'll have this thread locked and pruned and cleared of such meaningless contributions as swiftly as is humanly possible.

This is a place for people to share their thoughts and feelings... without any of the hostility or aggression which has been plaguing the rest of this forum. This is a thread to show your excitement, and share your thoughts and ideas... all in one place free of the fear of trolls and cynics. We'd all love to think that -every- thread is like that, but take a look in any one of them, and we all pretty much know better.

So!

What I want to know is... what has you the most excited? What do you want to see? What do you want to FEEL?

What is it you love about the Elder Scrolls, that keeps you coming back?

Let's see a little enthusiasm, huh? I can't be the only person tired of all the negativity... am I?

Better get used to it. Problem is we've dissected every shred of info and picked apart every screen and we've gone over the tailer frame by frame with a fine tooth comb. We've exhausted all info and we're in the midst of a drought. I really don't expect much, if anything, until around E3 in June. So it's going to be a looonnngggg three months.

It's the same for every game. Fans are rabid and denounce the game hourly as "the worst game ever made" months before it comes out. We're crazy.

I don't get why everyone is so impatience for info. I would rather just wait until it is out and specualte what I think, but I would rather know as little about it as possible so its a surprise.

We all love the game :) same as you, no matter what's in or out, I'll love it, cause I trust Beth and I know that they'll come up with a great game once again.
These are still the same guys that created Arena, Daggerfall, Battlespire, Redguard, Morrowind and Oblivion. (Which gave me great experiences and passed on forward many feelings and enthusiasm)

I want to pass this massage on:

Thank you Beth for creating these wonderful, rare games.

Being hyped and impatient is not necessarily the same as being without love for the game. But you'r right. Sometimes we sound as parents critisizing our yet unborn child...

T.E.S.! T.E.S.! I want to go wrastle a bear or something after reading that.

What am I excited for? The chance to see something revolutionary in gaming.

Why do I keep coming back? In a word. Morrowind. Because it revolutionized gaming for me. Of course other games had similar elements, but Morrowind put them together so well... at such a scale...

I loved Morrowind and Oblivion, two of really few single player games, fallout svcked imo I didnt even finish it, but I probably burned through weeks while playing TES, even if something odd comes up in game our mod community will fix it right!

I want to run around forest and climb mountains and try to headshot by passers and loot their bodies and just EXPLORE

Yep, even though Oblivion's caves and dungeons were a bit hollow and same like, which made it empty and pointless to me but I ran up and down opening every location on map and didn't get bored :P

Man, I know what you mean, thats why I dont realy get involved very much.

I love the Elder Scrolls (I've played at least 1000 hours of Oblivion and a little morrowind by that I mean less than 150 hours, I also just started daggerfall) whenever I play I always have fun Oblivion is the best game I have ever played. Sure there are plenty of thing that are not perfect but you know what, the good drasticaly out weighs the bad and that makes it (in my opinion) a amazing game. Why everyone has to get angry at every little thing they see, that we realy dont know very much about. Why is it that everyone has to shhot down people that voice the opinoin that guns should be included, when everyone knows Bethesda wouldn't put them in the game? I realy dont know. Here is to hoping for the day we get a piece of information and the forums explode with a nothing but nice things to say about it.

Edit: This guy right below me he says it all. This game is gonna be great!

The landscape and caves are handcrafted, we're getting more voice actors, they're doing new and interesting things with combat and skills, we're getting wonderful graphics, We're getting Dragons, radiant quests, some very nice looking water ( not neccessarily rapids ), and BEARDS!

Tattoos, a new location, more unique races, dragon-shouts, a magnificient new theme ( Kudos to Jeremy Soule :goodjob: ) a complete new language, factions that the devs are excited about. A brand new engine, dwemer ruins, a Dunmer city to add some Morrowind flare. And seperate and distinct regions!

There's so much to go on about! This game will be legendary!

So much of my sadness has already been alleviated!

There's positivity here! Can't you -feel- the difference already? How much negativity can people really stand? It's like walking out into a firing squad on this forum. Anyone with an idea, or a thought, or a feeling... they have just as much right to share as the rest of us do. And yet this place is just swarming with sharks, ready to tear them apart, insult their intelligence, criticize their ideas of fun... and that's just not what a community should be about!

It makes me very, very glad to see there are still folks around here who can converse and talk and be energetic... without that energy being spite, cynicism, and negativity towards one another!

I was really, really beginning to worry.

By the by... the thing I'm most excited about: The possibility of maybe being able to play as an armorer.

You can bet your elf-nuggets that if I can make weapons and armor, I'm gonna be building me a Forge and setting up shop in the first sizable town I see.

Well, I personally have to fight the strong urge to squeal and gibber like the over-excited little girl-fan I am almost everyday. The trailer still leaves me giggling every time I watch it. The only thing I could ever complain about is the wait, beyond that, I'm just oscillating between :twirl: and :ahhh:

This game will be outstanding.

I agree, as well... which makes me all the more sad, sometimes.

There's a lot of good here... but there's a lot of bad, as well... and moderators can only do so much to inspire community cooperation and discussion. It's really up to the people who make up the forum to determine the tone of voice that carries through, and right now... a lot of that tone is aggression.

So it really does help to have topics, sometimes, where the tone is set at positive... and negativity is made to feel properly un-welcome.

At least, that's my hope.

[edit]

At least you can -contain- your fan-girl squeal.

I squeal like a fan-girl... and I'm a guy. With a big, bushy, Nordic beard. (which I'm growing especially for Skyrim! Woo!)
