I just downloaded Oblivion from steam and generally it runs great, i have a GeForce 465 gtx and i max the setting with good framerate. But whenever an enemy spots me or when an enemy dies my screen freezes for like 1 sec. It's not much of a problem but it breaks some of the immersion none the less. Does anyone have an idea of what may cause this and what to do about it. Thanks before hand!
As the graphic card is way beyond the reqs of this game, even tho im sure Oblivion can't get enough of that juice i think it perhaps it can have something to do with your soundcard as everytime you engage combat it changes to combat music. It loads a new MP3 or what ever format the music was. You don happen to use an AC97 oinboard sound card?
Good point! it does happen every time the music changes, I'll look into that thanks! I'm ashamed to say that i don't know what sound card I've got tho xD Can you think of any way to fix this should it be the soundcard?
A couple things that you can try -- first make sure you have the newest drivers for your sound chip -- 2nd make sure that I-tunes or some other program rather than Windows media player is not the default program for opening .mp3 files (if it is each time it tries to open an .mp3 file it tries to go online and retrieve info on the file before letting it be opened which causes problems.) - 3rd download and install the K-lite codec pack and have it repair broken codecs as part of the install (in case some other codec or a broken association is the source of the problem) -- If none of these work then you can always disable music in the .ini file (just music not sounds) that way the problem goes away but you also lose the background music in game.
