Hidden citys

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:11 pm

I think there should be hidden cities ether hidden in the forest or maybe an inhabited Ruin its just a thought but it would make exploring a bit more interesting i mean there is nothing like finding a new place you have never seen before. at least in my opinion... any thoughts?

that does sound cool, but are we talking about inhabbited by bandits or by friendly NPCs? And how big a city? a massive one would be a bit silly

I love this idea. Just imagine walking in a forest at night, guided by the light of your torch. Only to walk right upon a village inhabited by bandits.

Friendly npcs mainly i know there were ruins with bandits in them and they were fun to pick off with my bow personally :P but im talking more Friendly NPCs maybe a quest or two

The City would be more or less a town but the Ruins would be full so it would still be hidden

The ruins of the hidden city of the dwarves, where even the undead fear to tread!

You mean the only village in Oblivion with a service besides an inn and the only one with a chapel? Yeah.

A hidden settlement or two (beyond bandit caves that is) would be neat but an entire city wouldn't make sense. In order to remain hidden they'd have to be fully self sufficient and it's difficult to obtain varied resources and grow food within a city.

sounds like a decent idea to me. Can we have wandering caravans as well? something like nordic gypsies?

I guess an underground City would be good to explore, a bit like the lost City in T1 & T2 with the lava pools. That was an enjoyable romp.

I could see some cool scenarios for a decent sized well hidden city. Maybe a hidden place that the citizens consider a personal paradise away from the other cities. Occasionally one of two of them venture out to buy supplies and sell whatever resource they have in abundance. Maybe you could randomly notice one of these npcs returning from buying supplies and follow them back to their city. They wouldn't welcome you at first without some sort of quest or approval gaining action. Would be sorta like the movie The Beach, only not tropical since its in skyrim. If this happened though it should be really well hidden, something you found on like your fifth playthrough.

Agreed. I liked the Mehrunes Razor dungeon because of this (except 99% of the people there are just hostile marauders, except for one slave, if I remember)

I like that there will be towns out in the wilderness. I hope there are "communities" of bandits/people/creatures... like a giant's gathering or a band of roaming elves or something.

Also it shouldn't be tied in with any sidequests (to find the place you must explore(the acual hidden village still gives some sidequests though)) or the main storyline...

maybe they could be inhabited by a new race, never seen before and you can unlock on to play as after you found the city, but it would be really hard to find, and lots of puzzles/traps to get to it. lol

It would be more or less a town above ground but the cities would be in the ruins. the resources would be ether grown or obtained discreetly the under ground cities would be self sufficient the materials would be grown down there.

I'd love it. The experience of discovering something new, stumbling across a hidden secret... That's the essence of exploration.

What about a ghost town? I think that would be the coolest... especially with Skyrim having this... ancient land theme to it. I imagine it like this:

You walk around till you find a secret entrance (Or find one through a quest), it's very hard to miss. You enter the underground entrance and there you find (after some traps/puzzles and such, ofcourse) this huge city underground, there are no people around, and there's this horrifying theme feeling to it, like something very bad happened there. Could be awesome if you find out later that something very mysterious happened to it and to the people who inhabited the place.

I imagine one scene in particular, there's this heavy mist but you can still see to the distance, after a while walking around the ancient ruins you notice an undead zombie headed your way through the mist, you prepare yourself, only to find that his has loooots of friends with him. Only choice then... ofcourse... is to run, or do something quest-related.

I'm not sure why this would be flamed but yeah I love that whole discovery feeling.

I hope to some ethreal being that we will not have those stupid symbols on our compass. Ruined exploration.

Big yes from me. I doubt it would be anything bigger than a settlement though. I always liked the idea of something similar to Little Lamplight from Fallout 3, just smaller and more hidden.

You go into a cave and it seems like your basic run of the mill cave until you come across a strange rock. After some exploring you find a switch and it opens up to this underground town.
