"Hidden packages" in Skyrim?

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 8:56 pm

I'm thinking GTA III style. Not rewards in the sense of health and weapon icons floating outside your house. They (the "hidden packages" not axes and stuff) would be scattered around the world, in caves, abandoned houses and outside in general.

I personaly love this type of things in any game, as it's something to do when you want to take a break and stroll around a bit. Anyone that is possesed by the collectors devil will like this aswell.

I know I want something like this, but have no idea how it should function.

So, do you want "hidden packages"?
What should they be?
What kind of reward should we get for collecting them?

They can be lore friendly of course.

Now, before you say "go play GTA and leave Skyrim alone" think, 100 things to find could be fun, but do I want it?

Edit: It's very much like the Nirn roots, but in very different locations (not only near water) and much more diverse rewards.

Edit: I'm looking for something that is totally detached from the game. Like in GTA III. No quest involved. The question I'm asking is if you want this and how to implement it?

Don't they kind of already do this with Nirn roots?

Not played GTA, but I love this idea. Why, you could find weapons, armor, ingredients to make potions with, potions themselves, clothing, clutter, magic items, daedric artifacts and so on.

Seriously, why didn't Bethesda think of this?

You need to explain yourself better, like what type of packages are you talking about?

Haha, yes they do. Forgot about that.

They are restricted to be near water though. Maybe we could have something more... hidden?

Not the x-rated kind. ;)

I'm looking for an urge to search every corner of the world.

Sounds like all the various stuff hidden around in TES games. Oh...problem solved. :D

Well there is loot scattered around the world like others have been saying lol, or are you talking about like having chests and loot more hidden to where you will actually have a hard time finding everything? If so, then I agree, in Oblivion almost every chest was just sitting in the open and that bothered me.

Question: Did you ever play Morrowind? Because you're describing one small element of it to a "t", minus these loot places being part of a "collect the whole set" quest.

Ah, so like things you can collect, like Nirn roots as you said and also Ayleid statues. I would actually love to have more of these scattered across Skyrim.
They even had similar things in New Vegas, like the snow globes and star bottle caps.

I'm playing through it right now. I don't recognise what you describe though.

Question is: Would you want something like that in Skyrim? Maybe you got a new idea about it?

RDR's treasure hunt feature was pretty cool. You get a map, follow it to the next piece of treasure, and there's a clue on where the next piece is.

I say again:

minus these loot places being part of a "collect the whole set" quest.

This might explain why you're not noticing it...the loot's there, but no counter to make sure you got "the entire set."

Question is: Would you want something like that in Skyrim? Maybe you got a new idea about it?

I don't see why it wouldn't be in Skyrim since it was in Morrowind and Oblivion both.

Of course I don't share your attachment to a "find'em all" quest, as long as the loot in various and out-of-the-way places is there, I can make my own challenges.

I think we want the same thing. It just so happen that I'm having problem expressing my view.

Thanks for your input.

Holy ****, Bethesda, implement this! The treasure hunting on Red Dead is the best system from any game in my opinion: an old price of paper, containing a subtle clue of a location like a picture of a nearby 'landmark' or a description of the area/people nearby, accompanied by a picture of how the treasure has been hidden. I defy one person on these forums to tell me that that wouldn't work brilliantly on an Elder Scrolls game.

I could see something like that working well in the game. Not really sure it's a priority for me, though. In both Morrowind and Oblivion (more so in Morrowind) there were tons of unique little things you could find in every little corner of the world. I think that's incentive to go delve into every corner of the world in itself. What the OP is suggesting is more things like the ayleid statues quest in Oblivion where you basically have to go collect a bunch of things from random places. I personally don't see why you need it to be a set of items (like the snowglobes or bottlecaps from FO) to want to go searching, but I guess if you just like collecting things it would be ok.... but I think that is a relatively small fraction of the TES community that would really enjoy these "collect all of the [insert item name here]" quests. I personally think they're kind of boring, and would only be worthwhile if there were decent rewards involved, even then it would be a rather tedious task.

Again, its just my opinion, but what the OP wants just seems to be something only a small group of fans would really benefit from, but I could be wrong. Maybe there are a lot of fans of collecting things around here, idk. If it is done I would hope only in relatively small quest-lines like the ayleid statues or the nirn root quests, not some huge scavenger hunt that could be a game in itself. That just seems more like a platforming game's thing to me, but idk.

It worked brilliantly in Morrowind, raiding the treasure in Divayth Fir's Corprusarium.

Wonder where RDR got the idea... ;)
