Hiding behind SSAO and HDR/Bloom

Post » Thu Dec 30, 2010 10:41 pm

Funny how nobody mentioned this before...

Hasn't it ever bothered you why Crysis 2 has such over-the-top SSAO and HDR?
Ever tried playing without them switched on?

Well the effect will be quite displeasing. Game will look more like a COD than anything especially low that you can actually see the textures...

My point is that Crytek kind of abused SSAO to the maximum - and same goes from HDR.
Crytek please learn from Just Cause 2 about how HDR should be used and learn from WoW how SSAO should be used.

I mean bloom on this game is jus out of this damn world... Blinds me

i think crytek did a amazing job with the ssao and hdr bloom. i love the affects of it and it make the graphics look even better, and like u say not even cod or just cause 2 can do the hdr as good as crytek 2, this shows just how good the company is, amazing work like always thank u crytek.

despite that justinbieberz is a troll here and always say the best... i might have to agree on him with this one. BLOOM/hdr and SSAO effects really bring game alive. i just love it when i come out from the dark room and firstly everything is quite bright then everything tones down like in real world until ur eyes adjust and everything is normal again. same as entering the dark room from outside its just amazing oh and blur is great too. All we need now is sharp textures and some tessellation and the game is gonna be photo realistic :)

yes but have in mind that Just cause 2 is a third person game, while crysis 2 is a fist person game, if you played just cause 2 on first person you would notice the low resolution textures and models, The HDR was amazing since i think it was done with the Nvidia's CUDA technology, but at the price of performance, while Crysis 2 HDR is integrated into cryengine 3 and it looks better than most other games from both PC/Console

also the game runs at like 25 Fps on my pc, while crysis 2 over 45 on max settings, Crysis 2 HDR is more resource efficient

Sidenote: Maybe Visor Enhance III should remove HDR, Bloom and SSAO
