High Falmer Illustration

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 7:21 am

Hi guys,

I just finished a sketch for my next painting, which will be an Elder Scrolls fanart. It shows a High-Falmer as I imagine them (based loosely on how they look in Skyrim and the Statue of Irkngthand) before all the horrible things happened to them.

Before I start the finished painting, I'd love to get some feedback from you guys - to correct mistakes before it's to late ;).

Oh, and I want to dedicate this and the finished piece to Adam Adamovicz, who I greatly admired. He and his work inspire me to do what I'm doing. Thank you!

Stunning, really really cool. Everything is brilliant, the gentle definition on his abs and the his expression are particularly excellent. :goodjob:

Well, I used this as reference:

Which has a slightly Egyptian touch to it as well. :)

My thoughts? very decent picture. The style is great and gives a really good interpretation of what the falmer could of looked like.

I'd like to point out that the falmer presented in the statue of Irkngthand would have most likely of been of a great status and therefore
his apparel, like any other in a position of power, would be of expensive or refined wear. If you could, I would change the clothing
to be more fitting for the cold, harsh wastes of ancient Skyrim. But that isn't to say you should change the style of his apparel, just the length.

Also the shading around the eyes appears to be rather dark or deep. Going off http://i.imgur.com/Vocg7.jpg of a wisp mother and a current falmer,
I'd reckon their eyes would have been more human than like a bosmer's. So in my opinion a lighter course of shading and more definition
upon the iris of the eyes would look good. But in any case- the picture is very well done and you should be proud of it.

Hey, thank you! Very insightful. I didn't know that the Wispmother are Falmer, as well. I thought since the Falmer are supposed to have (I'm quoting this now: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Falmer) "a strong resistance to frost, as their skin was coated with a thin layer of blue-white ice", the clothing wouldn't be very functional, but more like decoration. I mean, they are still crawling the caves underground barely clothed. :D
Anyway, I don't know what to do with the eyes, yet. I might change them when I'm working out the coloured painting.

I think its absolutely impressive, stunning, and depicts the Falmer as how i would. But one note, as mentioned before, there should certainly be some emphasis on his living in a very cold and harsh environment. In the time when the Falmer ruled over Skyrim, it was always covered in snow and ice. Only until Ysgramor came did Skyrim begin to thaw out, so to speak. Nevertheless, its still an awesome depiction, from the facial features to his apparel and everything else.

I hope Bethesda could do something with the Falmer, cause in Oblivion we got to see a little bit of what the Ayleids were like (KotN DLC), and in Morrowind we got to see Dwemer ghosts. With the Falmer, all we have is the Irkngthand statue.

That drawing is freaking awesome. I really like that you make them look like the statue and distinct from other elf types. Still, I think he probably should have been wearing more clothes. Skyrim is cold.

Falmer= Snow Elf, the Falmer we see went through some horrible things courtesy of the Dwemer. Kaio's sketch is what he thinks they would have looked like before they were fed nasty stuff by the Dwemer..

Fal=Snow
mer=Elf

Bos=Wood, Tree, Green
mer= Elf

etc etc,

Not very lore-friendly, eh? Its okay, you pick up a lot more as you grow in these forums.

Thanks for the comments! Yes, it is a Falmer, just (like Athell and Jonasavault101 said) during a time before they were transformed into how we know them now. ;)

I'm not going to comment on the lore because I know little of how the Falmer looked/dressed in the past.
But as far as drawing goes, you've done a great job. It's really detailed and the armour looks great considering the little inspiration that you have to go on.
I'm most impressed by your proportions, you've got them spot on, which is often the most challenging aspect to clasp.
The kitty is my favourite part though, really well drawn. ^_^

Excellent.

Maybe less midriff, or some hangy decorative cloth bits on the tunic? They are the snow elves, after all.

I would love to see you do a member of the High Ordinators(Dunmer) lost in the Ashlands a little after the Red Year. Not requesting just wondering lol.

Would love to see your Falmer picture as well. I used it as inspiration for my own drawing which is nowhere near as good or complete lol. So if nothing else you are helping to rekindle a long unused talent of mine.

Mistakes?

Will you be painting by hand or inking on photoshop? I'd be curious to see the results either way.

I'm still working on this! I thought I'd give some quick update:

There's still lots of progress to be made, probably will take a few weeks before it's finished.

Mistakes?

I'm working with Photoshop, both the sketch and the final picture.
