High level weapons, Axe of Despair vs Axe of Defence

Post » Wed Oct 21, 2009 9:43 am

So like everyone else facing reflecting enemies im thinking about a new weapon

Axe of Despair - damage fatigue 29pt on Touch On Strike
Axe of Defence - Shield 100, 1 sek, on Self On Strike

The question is which one is better, or maybe your favorite weapon choice for fighting Golden Saints and alike?

Pro1: Damage fatigue knocks people down, and keeps them there! Once someone is down he is never gonna stand up. Easy kill.
Pro2: Shield 100 more than doubles my current Armor Rating and cannot be reflected at all. o.o

First of all, if you want it to do damage to daedra, you gotta use daedric or silver weapons. I'm not sure if I missed any. But yes, make sure it can actually effect them.

Second, go with the axe of despair. why? Because when you afflict any damage fatigue spell on AI, it yields like no effects on them. You be better with the axe of Defence

i enchanted a daedric wakizashi with a restore health effect once.
that was pretty nice as a backup weapon to switch to in the middle of combat: heal up without stopping hackaway.

Axe of First Aid <- maybe? or just First Aid

Thanks, havent thought of healing. Axe of Invulnerability heh.

But a selfbuff weapon, is not really interacting with an enemy... Shield, healing, thats something which could be cast as a spell before the fight. I find it just so boring. Hmm, just how much does 1 sek of spell absorb cost.. Whats your main weapon TrueRevan.

well, you can cast it before and after, but on strike ~50 health + is nice. even more so considering the wakizashi attack rate, you can heal from nothing at all to fully regenerated in just a few hits, a real lifesaver
kinda boring, yes... but some of the worse enemies in morrowind advanced actually hit pretty hard (ogrim titan and the prismatic "atronach" thing, some crystal golem or so)

main weapon... hard to tell :D sometimes trueflame, sometimes hopesfire. most of the time a daedric wakizashi with damage health (for the looks, for the style, and i only have short blade as a major/minor melee skill). throwing weapons as well, unenchanted
damage health is boring too =/

i liked the (BTB-)unnerfed version of eltonbrand with fortify attack and restore fatigue. damn good long blade trainer, if it were not for the one-hit-one-down effect of that sword in the early game.
so, these are buffs, too.

no defensive spells, but offensive. but they may not be reflected. i guess the list is pretty short ;)

another idea: are you a dunmer? are you a nord? are you a BTB khajiit? are you a BTB imperial?
then... you could go for elemental damage you can resist/you are immune to. i'm a dunmer and take out ascended sleepers with ebony area effect fire arrows. if they reflect, well, it's painful, but i'll survive :)
same works for cold/shock for nord, cold for BTB khajiit and shock for BTB imperial
almost forgot: paralyze for BTB bosmer :D (immunity even)

Yeah my char is an altmer, and only has 100% disease immunity and that doesnt help much. Fighting MWadv flame atronachs is exiting. And very deadly. Then again i dont have the uber gear yet. Bretons in Saviors Hide would be clear winner here and go crazy with enchantments. But bretons are OPed anyway.. I guess youre right, the list is pretty short.

Absorb fatigue is kinda cool though. The green-o-meter is jumping wildly all over the place, depending on whether the effect went through or got reflected. But costs more. -,-

Hmm. How about. Constant effect cure poison and a poison weapon.. gonna check the cost right now, hehe. Meh, poison is not a debuff.. :(

they're cheese, yes :P not even BTB could kill the magic immunity completely (savior's hide was scaled down to 30%, with phynaster and wraithguard, it's still possible for a breton)

let me know about the cure poison + poison damage, that sounds cool. i can imagine however that the cure poison effect is already over when the damage is reflected. needs testing (or knowledge)
same for paralyze and cure paralyze (in non-BTB, ofcourse, as cure paralyze doesn't exist anymore)

okay i think i found something, although its not quite elegant. Cure poison constant effect costs 500.. Reflect and Absorb are very interesting effects, but for some reason, they are cast(on self) but not shown as icons. May be a visual disturbance, or they are just not applied, because bugged.

Axe of Decrepify - Damage Agility 6pt, 1 sek, on touch on Strike.

How is that not gonna get reflected? Well, i also made a belt with constant effect restore 1-13 agility, hehehe. They are continuously losing agility, and thus are knocked down even with full fatigue, especially if hit with a 72 weight units Daedric War Axe. Its quite amazing. The bits which are reflected, are restored. And being immune to agility damage(and consequently keeping high resistance vs knockdown) is quite pleasant as well. Or maybe.. Barbarians Nightmare? :D

I try to not overpower myself when I play. I don't have much fun when I'm not challenged at all. If I was forced to pick, however, I think I would go with the Axe of Despair.

If you're a Nord you can just use Frost Damage on your weapon and never wory about reflecting. Doesn't work that great on Sosltheim though. There are also several artifacts that provide very high resistances. The Dragobone cuirass makes you immune to fire so you can sue fire Damage freely (doesn't work that well when fighting dunmer though). If you're a dunmer yourself you can use fire enchantments quite safely even without any extra gear. Cuirass of the Savior's Hide grants 60% Resist Magic so if you're a Breton it makes you immune to pure magical effects such as Absorb Health and Damage Health.
