High levels and defending settlements.

My character is level 82 on survival and god mode has been in full effect for quite some time, although it does seem like I'm running into more enemies with really deep HP, which is nice.

Anyway, I've noticed that some of the attacks on my settlements have had a ridiculous amount of enemies. One gunner assault had about 15 guys, 4 were legendary, and at least 6 of the guys had missile launchers. A raider assault had even more, about 20, and 7 of them were in power armor. Supermutant attack, about 10 of them, almost all were equipped with mini guns or missile launchers. Most of these large engagements are on settlements further south.

I'm loving it. I wish settlement defenses were more in depth, I'm hoping DLC will provide that. There is some serious potential for Fallout 4 settlement/tower defense.

So I was curious, has anyone else had attacks like these? At this point I'm just worried that the next gunner assault will be equipped with fatmans and ill get nuked right after I fast travel there hahaha.

Level 84 currently. I only run to "attack" prompts if I have time. mostly just the castle.

When I get there, I usually have 6-12 Muties with at least 2 Legendary.

SO I am seeing a progression of stronger attackers vs my level.

At level 75. The last few attacks have had quite a few badass enemies.

I counted 18 Synths attacking The Castle. Unlike most enemies they charged straight through the front door and spread out in the courtyard making my outward defence void. They were responsible for my first Settler death. Killing my artillery man. I can't complete the defend quest as there's one enemy gone missing. Scouted everywhere and even used Dogmeat to search for them. I have a feeling one of my settlers is not like the others...

Two attacks at Warwick Homestead in the space of an hour.

1st - 4 PA clad raiders, 3 Legendary and 6 regulars.

2nd - 6 PA clad raiders, 5 Legendary and 8 regulars.

Luckily they group together at the entrance I set up and got destroyed by my rocket turrets.

Yeah I've been running into a lot of super mutant attacks where they have 6 Masters all wielding miniguns or super-sledges. I have no problem taking them on, but Warwick Homestead had a few non-essentials who died during the attack, which was weird... All they are is a massive bullet sponge, which is frustrating.

I'm level 70 on survival and get some crazy SM attacks at Greentop and Coastal Cottage. Raiders love Somerville and the Castle. But my walls keep them away and I pick them off one by one 3 stories above them where I have my suite. The last battle that took a few minutes was at Coastal Cottage. 7 regular SM and 2 legendary SM and one had a Fatman. I'm glad wood walls and roofs can handle mini nukes. LMAO.

I have 24 settlements now with walls everywhere. Strange wood walls are just as strong as concrete shack foundations. I also like to put fences around the wall about 30 feet away to keep suiciders at bay.

Since I am apparently oblivious to the pop-up messages, I'm glad I am constantly checking in to my Miscellaneous quests to catch attacks.

My only question is: What's up with Ten Pines! For goodness sake, I've had maybe 1 attack in all these levels at most of my settlements (never had one at a couple though), but Ten Pines is constantly getting attacked! Their stats aren't any different than any of the others and they certainly don't have any resources that anybody would want, but, they've obviously pissed somebody off major league. Just yesterday it was Supermutants, 3X from Raiders, 1x from Gunners, twice from Deathclaws and 3x from Radscorpions!

Sheesh guys, you just can't get a break, can you?

lol.. That's Oberland Station in my play through. Two poor lonely settlers and they have every faction angry and coming for them. Kinda nice since they leave all my other settlements alone though :)

the rule that you only need as much defense as food/water doesnt seem to be true at least on higher lvls...even with twice the amount of defense - it seems some settlements are just more prone to attacks then others due to their location maybe? Does it matter if the areas around them are "cleared"?

I think at a certain point in the game, maybe do a certain minute man quest for "training armed patrols" - these attacks should just stop alltogether...it is just really annoying if you have like me 20 settlements or so and CONSTANTLY need to run from one settlement to another to defend it and waste your time... if i defend it NOTHING happens to anyone but if i dont go 80% of the stuff gets destroyed - altough the turrets kill everything within seconds...

That mechanic sounds interesting in theory but it gets REALLY annoying... honestly, in hindsight, if i do another playtrhough i will stay as far away from settlements as possible... not only do they not contribute in any meaningful way, they are a huge hassle cause your constantly running to defend them or collecting carbage to build them AND the more settlements you have, the longer your load times get....

The settlement attacks got so annoying that I finally used a mod to disable all settlement attacks. People still get kidnapped and ferals still threaten but I don't have to drop everything to go run and do those.

That's the mod I use, it's a godsend if you plan on actually playing the game without having to rush to defend all of your settlements every 10 seconds. I haven't gotten any of the radiant stuff (kidnapping, synth replacements, ghouls threatening) through 32 levels but I also abandoned the minutemen in Sanctuary and avoid Preston like the plague.

I wish I knew.

All of my settlements have an abundance of defense, anywhere from 150-250, and I've cleared a huge portion of the locations in the game.

It all just feels so random.

I think the warning help but its no guarantee.

At level 40 I feel that the attacks start getting harder.

The ghoul farm has an special weakness, traveling to it or atacks on it has an chance of getting the forged involved, mostly an trader with an bramin called idiot.

I'm level 48 and I have so few attacks. Only one was remarkable, 10 supermutants attacking 4-settler Finch Farm where was no defense at all. Somerville (14 settlers) never got attacked, same the Castle or the DriveIn, my other bigger settlements.

I however use a Settlement Raid mod which currently only works with a bat file but in future hopefully will get random attack options. There are four different difficulties, currently for the Castle and Starlight DriveIn. At the hardest attack there are about 30 to 40 enemies with lots of launchers and 3 to 4 power armor guys with fatmans. Boy, it's not funny how fast your turrets get knocked out by the mininukes. Even at the Castle and using artillery to defend usually half of your settlers are dead after an attack.
