High Rock: Tamriel Travelers Edition

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 10:46 pm

Hey folks.

HIGH ROCK: TAMRIEL TRAVELERS EDITION [WIP]

(Formally: High Rock 427)

MISSION STATEMENT:

If you're anything like me, you really, really like lore-appropriate new world additions, especially things that seem to add to the ever-layered complexity and immersion to the Elder Scrolls universe. Now, I've always been partial to Bretons, but I haven't had a good wall to climb or a fat, plutocratic robber baron to finesse since the golden days of TES:2. It broke my heart when HR:427 disbanded before we had the opportunity to start any serious work, however, never despair. While I am aware that this project will never, and is never intended to match the scope or complexity of a fully fleshed, fully developed provincial mod such as Tamriel Rebuilt, Skyrim: Home of the Nords, or Province: Cyrodiil, I do intend on bringing you all the following, before hanging up my hat.

  • FULLY FINISHED LANDSCAPE/CITY EXTERIORS FOR THE GREATER BETONY AREA, including the cities of Daggerfall, Camlorn, Glenpoint, Anticlear, Isle of Balfiera, Isle of Betony, Tulune, Kings Guard, Alcaire, and Illessan, as well as a fully textured and landscaped Iliac Bay, Delesse Isles & Illessan Hills regions.
  • MASSIVE Exterior Skeleton of the capital city of Daggerfallcrafted with the explicit intention of maximizing the effect of MGE's distant land generation. Perched on Temple Hill, it almost seems as if the city goes on for miles in every direction.
  • NPCS! No empty cities, you'll meet destitute Khajiit laundry laborers, con-men, thieves, knights, bankers, barons, lords- a whole manor of medieval and elder scrolls influences characters, including returning characters from TES:2, many of whom utilizing animations from Animated Morrowind.
  • Some interiors! The size of a few of these cities, combined with the fact that I'm *the only person working on this project*, makes churning out 500+ interiors for the city of Daggerfall a bit Arduous, but interiors will be placed intelligently, spaced out, and by order of importance.
  • CoM and NoM patches.
  • Quests. (Always.)
I do not have a modeler, and have spent some serious time scouring the .nifsand .dds resources to even make this possible, and I'm happy to report that I've got a lot of A+ High Rock and High Rock-esque resources that have just been piling up over the years, but I could *always* use more. If any if you TALENTED modders out there are looking to offer a hand, shoot me a PM.

I'm not going to let this fall by the wayside and I'll never do that thing that some modders do, where they work super hard and create something wonderful and never release it to the public because 'it's not ready.' I'll start throwing out some releases *right away* at the top of the month, just to get some feedback- and, most importantly, if I get hit by a bus, you folks will have all you need to pick up the torch and keep High Rock 427 alive.

Here are some screen-shots to wet your pallets, let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!

(Keep in mind, these are shot in the CS.)

I think you need to have made 10 posts before you can post links. I guess it's a forum setting to reduce the impact of spammers / bots, but I'm not sure if it's a Bethesda choice or comes with the forum software. However, there isn't anything in the Forum information stickie...

[Edit: Anyone know how to contact a Moderator about updating the forum FAQ? I was going to use the Report button on my post but that's only for objectionable content]

You don't need the [IMG] to post the links.

Looks like you've done a lot of work, but could you take some overview pics? Would give us a better view of the scale, layout etc.

Sounds very interesting! And I have to admit that I'm happy you didn't come here expecting immediate assistance with your project. Like I would normally expect from posts such as this.

So you were a part of the old High Rock team? Neat! Looks like you've got access to the resources which were made for that project before it disbanded. I can't offer to do exteriors/interiors or any CS work, but I might be able to make a mesh here and there. Might I suggest that, when you get around to it, you start a list (put it in a spoiler or something to avoid a super long post) with all the things which would be useful, if made, for the project? I'm decently handy in blender and can texture... adequately (if painstakingly slow). And I'm willing to help out here and there.

Sure! Any requests? In the meantime, let me try to give you some more information on scale,

This mod utilizes SGMonkey's amazing High Rock Heightmap, which is placed at a 1:1 scale to Vvardenfell. It even includes quite a bit of Hammerfell.

It's based off of this map. The area of 'Greater Betony', forms from Daggerfall, to Camlorn, to Vermier forming a rough triangle around the southwestern portion of High Rock; this is "Release 1" and it is roughly half the size of Vvardenfell.

If you'd like any more screenshots of any particular area, just ask.

(I can't post the link of the map. Arghagh.)

Yeah, well.

I was on the High Rock 427 team. Before that, I was doing a landscaping and cities for Onra's TWMP High Rock, buuuut the scale is just so goofily small and It felt like a short jog across the country. No disrespect to Onra, he's great, but nothing beats MW's scale.

I've been wanting to go back to HR forever, and my pops always told me, if you want something done, you've just got to do it your danged self.

Also, thanks man. I appreciate it! I'll definitely hit you up if I need anything. Right now, I'm looking for some unconventional western-looking shacks or stack-houses for a rather large slum.

If we even have a little piece of every province, I'll die happy.

I haven't seen anything on a Hammerfell mod, have you? We'll see what sort of progress I make on Release 1. I may sidestep Wayrest and Northpoint momentarily, afterwards just to toss up a Sentinel City skeleton and some sandy barren dunes of the Alik'r desert just because I freakin' want to.

It pleases me that your going to release stuff at what sounds like a regular pace! I would hate for a project like this to die.

Unless I'm mistaken, the fellow who was working on Argonia had a hard-drive crash and apparently lost everything, but that was about six months ago. Now, if we could ever retrovert Isben's Black Marsh mod for TES4, I'd explode.

Looks promising. Really has an atmospheric feel to it and the textures go nicely with each. Individually however, textures have too many repeats over the surfaces.

Why the heck have people not learned they need to back up their stuff! I mean good lord, this is 2012 and 2013, everyone should know by now that you are asking for it if you dont back your stuff up.

And also, for some reason this popped up on 'images you will also enjoy' http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=1j86ci&s=6
Why would that pop up?

Project Outreach looks so great. Their city mockups look so so good. I hope we get a release out of them one day.

OH WOW. That picture.

What do you mean about the textures having too many repeats over the surfaces? Do you mean terrain textures, or building textures? The last thing I want is sameyness and mundanities. Thanks for the feedback!

Well Stros M'Kai is part of Hammerfell, but it's just a small island, my mod won't include any of the Hammerfell mainland. With the amount of detail and diversity I'm planning for Stros M'Kai though, an entire Hammerfell mod would be ridiculous, I'm just going to stick to my small scale landmass.

Damn Tarius! Warn somebody! Sheesh.

I don't see the big deal, it's just three people sitting down shirtless. They're wearing bras. Nothing dramatic. :?

Call me a lore rookie here, but who are the rulers of High Rock at the time Morrowind takes place?
