"Hines then finishes up by noting that when the day comes that console mods are possible, Bethesda will be there and ready to support it."

"All in all, exciting stuff for those willing to wait in hope, but not so great for anyone expecting a sudden moddable surprise… "

This has been an on-going topic for a long time. I really would love mods on the consoles but I highly doubt it will ever be implemented for Skyrim. The only game I know of that does this is Unreal Tournament 3 for the PS3 along with even keyboard and mouse support.

I doubt it ever will. There's far too many problems involved in doing this that neither Sony nor Microsoft want to deal with.

I'm no expert in piracy, but if mods were allowed on the systems would it make it easier to pirate games? If so then we're even less likely to see them.

Nice, but I'd rather just play the games Bethesda makes. I don't want to risk downloading a virus.

Todd stated in one of his interveiws that its too dangerous to put mods in the consles dew to getting certain mods might screw up both the game and the virus which makes mods a no go zone for now. Todd hoped though that by the next game they would of figured out how to put the mods in a safer way but thats in the far off future.

I doubt that modding capabilities will ever be added to consoles, so if you want to mod, get a PC.

The problem is that the day user mods will be on consoles will never happen.

Microsoft and Sony will NEVER allow users to modify games on their consoles. Way to many problems with that, they can't even control the cheating they have on their consoles now. Added to the fact that the second some little kids sees objectable material law suites will start coming out of the wood work.

I don't see it happening, ever.

It really irks me how media sites like to take old news, mix it up a bit, then repost it as current news.

If you do play on PC I'd definitely recommend mods. I will play the game the way Bethesda intended it to be played first, but some mods out there (such as graphical enhancers) will always find they're way into my game in the end. It's a lot to miss out on, and there are a lot of trusted sources that I've never had any problems with (and I've downloaded hundreds).

With regards to console mods: some of the mods made really do make the world look so much better, and add huge amounts to the game. Will the consoles be able to handle this as well as opposed to a high end gaming PC?

like how it happened with unreal tournament on ps3?

mods like new armours or locations are pretty much unofficial DLC

it's not impossible, and sony right now is endorsing the feature on user generated content.

the obstacles to overcome are the quality control and their distribution but i can see a few solutions to come up a few years later

one day...one day...

Try reading what it says and not what you want it to say. Theres no possibility of legal mods on consoles for Skyrim.

An FPS where you make maps is one thing, and I'm surprised they can control the cheating in that.

Making a mod in a game with such a scope as Skyrim I don't ever see happening. Even if they gave free textures to use for the console, someone would find a way to edit those textures, make a nvde mod, upload it and then some kid is going to play it infront of their parents and laws suites will start appearing.

There is just way too many things that can happen for me to ever see it happening.

To everybody that says mods on consoles will never happen..they already have, four years ago.

Unreal Tournament 3 allowed keyboard and mouse support, as well as PC mods to be installed on the PS3. Load them to a USB drive, put it in the PS3, install. Bam, done.

So it's not impossible if the developers take their time and actually learn about the system they're working with, something a lot of multiplatform developers overlook with Sony because Microsoft likes to throw money at them to focus on their system.

This pretty much summed the link up in a nutshell. Rehashed media is commonplace in the business. As for mods, it's an issue with security. I've never heard of a virus from TESNexus but then again I know what I'm doing. Haven't had a virus/malware/spyware in about 4 or 5 years but regardless; Sony and MS are up in arms about security.

I don't think the mods will be graphical enhancement mods based around what they do and the limitations of the console (tesslation, shaders, texture detail, AA, draw distance, DX11, etc) but more along the lines of expansion (extra quests, stories, explorable lands) content.

I think it might happen, and when it does, it'll never happen again. as it is, consoles are foolproof. add modding into the mix, and people are gonna burn out their systems overstraining it with better textures and weather effects, or by spawning too many things onscreen at once. and warranty replacements will start going up, and with no money comming in for the modding ability, it'll be shut down again.

reskinning from templates is one thing. Creation kit control is another altogether.

You made a great point I didn't even think of. Overtaxing the consoles is another worry as well, especially since they can't be opened up and parts replaced without sending it to Microsoft or Sony.
