Hint at Daggerfall remake?

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 8:23 pm

I think Todd was sugesting something for moders to do with the new Skyrim moding tool. Remaking the city of Daggerfall within the Skyrim engine would be possible but it would require about 1/4 of the map area. Cities would have to be split in their own world areas and the wildeness would not be continous anymore*. This could still be a great mod to play.

* I recall geting out of Privateers Hold (the starting dungeon) and walk south to the city of the Gothway Gardens because i was too sick to fast travel. That required 10 minutes just to go down a pixel on the map.

You can actually WALK to other places? Holy crap, I never got that! I just thought it was random, infinite wasteland generated as you walked on... Now that is awesome...

At the very most I could see them doing just the city of Daggerfall as an Expansion

Randomly walking through the wilderness killing stuff is how I usually used to find witches covens. You wander around long enough, eventually you find things.

Daggerfall is much too big of a game... that map is HUGE.

Doubt it. Hope not. I'd really rather have time spent more on new games. Daggerfall is great, it doesn't really need a remake. If anything, I'd say Arena would benefit most from a remake.

Arena? All of Tamriel for current-gen consoles is wishful thinking. If you're talking about the current engine anyways. I'd still love it though. Maybe next-gen?

hate to (potentially) burst your bubble but do you have modding experience?

Heaps. I can do scripting, texture replacing/making, mesh editing, almost everthing
I've worked on big projects like MERP for Oblivion too.

daggerXL certainly looks cool, but it doesn't make high resolution sprites.. it uses the same ones and puts them into a new engine environment.

The DaggerXL community is actually working on making high res sprites.

Devs are allowed to have fantasies of what they would like to create too.

Just because he would like to see it doesn't mean they have any plans.

True, but I would love it if they made an expansion to Skyrim that took place in High Rock. The first thing I would do is to visit Orsinium, the the city of Daggerfall.

Forgive my skepticism (lots of mods don't get off the ground :(), but if you start a mod up with serious intent, hit me up if you need extra mesh work and map designers. I can do environmental props, buildings, and map design.

The DaggerXL community is actually working on making high res sprites.

I might wanna work on that mod (as long as the models fit Skyrim, by that I mean models who doesn't look far superior, or far insuperior)... but I can only do basic scripting, put together interiors and exteriors (by that I mean only assemble the already created meshes), I may be able to make textures, and finally test... that's pretty much all I can do...

Awesome. I'll get around to making a website closer to Skyrim's release.

EDIT: I hate doing interiors.... so boring.

EDIT: Why? There's so much fun if you have a creative mind... in Morrowind I was once working on a giant interior, "Keyhorn Castle", it was filled with traps which involved a little scripting and a likely death... my favorite was a room were there was lying an artifact (the one you were sent to get) on an alter in the center and two tunnels covored by grates in each side of the walls... as you touch the artifact a messegebox apear saying "As you touch the sword it turns into dust, you hear the door behind you close, and water dripping from the grates above... now the door is closed and and the room is slowly being flooded... there is no way to open the door again and every time you touch it you get paralyzed... there is of course a hidden leaver that opens a hidden tunnel within the floor... but can you find it before you drown?..

looking forward to work on this... but here's some advice... start with Daggerfall (the city) (or another big, big, city), (I'm sure it'll result in more people wanting to work on this... and if you never make it further Daggerfall the city would be able to work as a complete mod) and have a guy teleport you there... then expand it into entire Daggerfall (the region)... and from there keep expanding 'till you reach skyrims borders...

Yeah that's the thing about DaggerXL is in the end Lucius is going to be making it fully mod-able so it will have a community like Morrowind and Oblivions only smaller.
