[WIP] HiRez Armor Textures- Oblivion Edition

Post » Sun Aug 21, 2011 7:49 pm

Those of you who spend time on the Morrowind modding forum probably already know that I've been working on an armor texture replacer for Morrowind. I'm also beginning a project to do the same for Oblivion. These textures will, in some instances, be a fairly dramatic departure from the originals, but the original textures weren't always that great anyway, so I don't see it as too much of a problem :P These textures are all much larger than the originals as well, in the territory of 1024x1024 or 2048x2048, depending on the texture. So, here's a preview of what I've done so far.

It's not necessarily realistic, given how many instances of iron armor there are in the game, but the way I see it, it's a fantasy game; intricate, highly detailed armor will be the least of your concerns when you're throwing fireballs at a talking, anthropomorphic cat :P I wanted to embrace the medieval, renaissance-faire feel of Oblivion and use it to make the armor sets look more distinctive and beautiful. I don't know if I've succeeded, I'll let you be the judge of that. I'll be releasing these individually as I complete them, because it'll probably be slow progress between school, work, and my other projects (particularly in the Morrowind community).

So, thoughts, criticism, concerns? Please feel free to post them here! :)

Looks nice to me. I'd maybe add more depth to the design via the normal map, but maybe it's just the angle.

There actually isn't even a full set of hi-res remade versions of the originals, but the way I see it replacements that stick to the spirit of the originals, whatever that is, are just as good. This coming from someone who likes the style of the vanilla armors, mostly. I've always hated the glass color lololol
